My DD was accepted at both these schools, and I'm trying to get a sense as to their similarities and differences. I'm aware Colgate is much bigger, and we have visited Colgate, but not yet Kenyon. Is Colgate considered more prestigious and rigorous, or just less "arty"? Some people are telling me it's preppier and sportier, would love to get people's take on this. Thanks!

Colgate's definitely preppier and sportier, and probably a tad more prestigious, though I think the rigor at Kenyon is equal to that of 'Gate. Kenyon is smaller, doesn't have Colgate's D1 sports, and to be honest it seems friendlier to me. Kenyon's campus is gorgeous as well.

Colgate has more prestige on the east coast. It is preppy. It has a strong alumni network.

I have gotten the impression that Colgate is considered a stronger school. I've also gotten the sense that Kenyon was more in the same vain as Colgate and was more preppy and less "arty" the way I would picture Oberlin, Carleton, Bates, Bard, Vassar to be.
