College admission and g.p.a

Well I'm wondering if colleges have their own way of calculating your gpa. Well I've heard that colleges don't look at courses taken in 8th grade, and my school counts a couple high school classes taken in 8th grade toward my gpa. Do colleges count this or do they just count 9th-12th grade. I'm wondering because 8th grade was a bad year for me with an 84,(some bad teachers) while my 9-11 gpa was around a 95, so that 8th grade is really screwing me over.

8th year grades are never included.

even if they were high school courses?

I believe you just get the credits for passing the class. It’s like dual enrollment doesn’t affect your college GPA? I could be wrong.

My school includes a few 8th grade courses in the GPA calculation, too, and they appear on my official HS transcript that colleges see. At most of my schools, the GPA on the transcript is what the school considers, including those 8th grade class scores. Some schools don’t look at it that way, though, so it depends on where you are applying. Some recalculate based on their own system, some throw out 8th or even 9th grade, some look only at core academic classes. California and Florida schools have their own particular systems. It really varies from school to school.
