College and Summer

How do colleges view what you do during the summer time and how important is it in college admissions? Last summer I did a bunch of community service at the local retirement home. This summer I plan on working as a camp counselor for 7 weeks and then I was offered a job as a lifeguard for the remainder of the summer (I don't go back to school until September 3rd). How will colleges view this as opposed to doing community service for the summer? Right now I have like 60 hours of community service. I'm also hoping that some of these will make up for my not so great EC's. Also currently I am a junior.

One of my teachers said that community service is generally more favorable to colleges, because it shows that you are a “dedicated citizen.”

How much time will your lifeguard job take up?

I think its like for 2 and a half weeks. I thought colleges were all about following your passion.

In the admissions process, they look at community service/volunteer work and activities to fully evaluate the student. The people who care about academics in my school are all freaking out about it.

Anyway, what colleges are you looking at?
