College App Essay! Please help c:

So I'm picking to the first prompt where you talk about something that is central identity. Here is where my problem lies. I have so many things I could possibly write about; needless to say, I've had a tumultuous life so far. I need help on picking the best one and why. Obviously, I expect that no judgment will be cast upon me for sharing these topics with you. Keep in my mind, I had a bad junior year due to most of these events happening. Whichever topic I do choose, I will not let it be written for pity or to make excuses. I want to show how it's made me stronger and motivated which may sound cliche.

Topics:

-growing up raised by an alcoholic and physically abusive mother until age 17

-coming out as a lesbian in junior year

-depression, self harm and my hospitalisation for all of that

-bullied throughout my entire life

I can write positives for all of these as well.

Please help!

Anyone can help please

It sounds like the first prompt is a very serious life situation that you had to live with and endure, that to me would profoundly affect your life and so be very applicable to the prompt. You want to show how to adapted and survived and perhaps thrived in spite of this situation (why weren’t you taken out of this situation?). Perhaps #3 is a result of this situation, but you don’t want to go there in a college essay it is too risky.

The second thing can work too, as it can be a piece on self discovery and show how you dealt with this in relation to other people when you came out.

Up to you. There isn’t any ‘better’ subject, just better writing.

Alright,
Thank you. That helps c:
