College chances ?

Okay so here's my story
I got myself into one of the top college prep schools in my state and went there from 7 grade up until now. The summer of 9th grade my cousin on her 7th birthday was diagnosed with an inoperable, uncurable brain stem tumor. It was called DIPG, and there is no cure for this kind of brain cancer. Doctors give DIPG children a diagnosis of living 6-8 months prior to diagnosis. My cousin did pass away, and It changed my outlook. I had second honors all of middle school and worked really hard. My cousin passing away so young made me realize that I need to laugh more, and enjoy life more. I believed that stressing out over a test was pointless. Memories, and being happy we're most important to me. It was my way of coping with her death. Needles to say, this way of coping rocked my gpa to a 2.48. Sophomore year I picked myself up and went up to a 2.58 ending my junior year I had a 2.8. My cumulative gpa is a 2.64. My SATS are a 1660 but I'm gonna get it into the 1700s. I have been in service board, model un, and student guides since my freshman year and I know my essay & recs will be the best part of my application. I'm kicking myself for doing bad freshman year bc now it's caught up to me. Any chances at college ? I'm feeling hopeless

There is almost always more than one way to get to your goal. Some take a direct route while others go about it indirectly but they both can end up at the same place. Perhaps you can opt to go to community college for two years and then if you keep your GPA up, you can transfer to a college or university. What are your interests?

What’s your home state?

You could always enroll in a community college after high school and if you do well there you can transfer to a four-year.

I think you can get into a lower state school because you’ve shown improvement. I’d apply to lower private schools because they’ll look at your whole app, including ECs and essays rather than just GPA and SAT. I think you will get into a uni but if you don’t you can always just transfer out of a CC
