Hey pre-med experts, I'd like some advice. I'm a senior in hs wanting to do pre-med and am taking two college classes (at a selective LAC) currently. one of the two I got an A in but one of them has been killing me (combination of senioritis + hard hs semester + lots of reading/writing + chained to hs schedule = bad idea). i think I'm gonna get a B- in that.

I'm wondering if when i will apply to med school four years from now, if i'll HAVE to report all the college classes i've ever taken even before college (i heard about the AMCAS total GPA Swarthmore College :: Health Sciences Office :: Guide for Applying to Medical School for Swarthmore Undergraduates and Alumni/ae.), and if so, how bad or important is a B- in a college history class taken in high school? Would it be possible just to not transfer the credit from that class to my college and forget about it forever? Do I have to send a college transcript to my college even after I've been accepted, and send a college transcript of my pre-college college classes to med school?

Yeah they’ll get those grades whether you report it or not. They look at any and all college classes you have ever taken. But one B- shouldn’t affect you at all. When you start college if you consistently start getting B’s then that’s an issue but if you have a solid GPA overall one B- will not affect you for any medschool admissions.

Yes. It’s a college class. You took it. You made what you made.

It will have exactly the same impact on your AMCAS GPA as if it were taken at your undergraduate school.

If you fail to list it, it will be considered a misrepresentation of your academic record and your admission to med school could be rescinded (even after matriculation). Don’t fail to list it.

Just do your best. You have many, many classes to minimize the negative impact.

Curmudgeon lists the good points here. Keep in mind, that is 1/2 of your grades already that are B’s. Technically more than 1/2 considering that it is a B-. Two classes determine nothing, but if you wanted to analyze statistically, you’re getting a 3.333 GPA as of now.

I am a senior in HS myself, and am taking advantage of the dual-enrollment for english. I understand where you’re at, in terms of how being a senior in HS really affected your performance. Senioritis as well as fully submerging in all AP’s as a senior really steals attention away, but don’t let it bring you down. Learn from your mistakes and procrastination, learn how your laziness affects you and realize how much scare a single B can instill within you so you can take measures against getting more (meaning straying away from laziness & not letting it control you, regardless of senioritis).
