jeans are still fine. but i support wanting to look more mature. in the end though it depends what you want to wear. most people at college really dont care what you wear. obviously you want to look good if ur trying to impress someone, but still be who you are

I haven’t checked on this thread for a while. This discussion is hilarious. haha.

Thanks for the help guys. I don’t have self esteem issues. You’d be surprised to see what I have in my closet. Cargo shorts? I don’t think they’re that bad. I don’t wear them though. The closest thing to cargo short I have are mountain biking shorts. However the pockets are made flush into the fabric and it doesn’t look anything like cargo shorts. I think I’ll just buy solid color tees, dark jeans, more conservative looking sneakers, and some collared shirts.

I was going to say that, at least where I live, you don’t see much of a difference in college students and high school juniors and seniors.

don’t be that guy in high school wearing chinos and a tucked in polo. you’re in college now. wear CARGO SHORTS

College is such a fun time to experiment with your wardrobe! After high school, I immediately started experimenting more with different styles. There’s not really a “college” style, since fashion is highly subjective. Just wear what you want and don’t care what others think.

Really?

All I plan on wearing are jeans and a t-shirt. Why? I will pay over 1400 a month for rent w/out utilities. A school hoodie in the winter, if I can afford it.

Chicks are attracted to me all the time. I’d say save formal attire for when it’s appropriate but for buy a set of polos when you want to wear them. You should be able to get them relatively cheap. I don’t think most people notice brand-names these days unless they’re really superficial.

I remember a kid who wore a suit every day to class. I would like it if we were all back in a time period where every boy wore a suit. However, this is 2012 and I live in California. He was in my physics class and stupid. He would be sweating all the time. He’d complain about it. It made him stick out. Don’t stick out.

Every time I see someone dressed nice I think “awards ceremony” or “church”. Never “they look nice”. But yeah, you’ll find most people won’t care what you wear. Just don’t go around wearing a rainbow colored wig and short shorts.

This is a funny thread because I’m wearing cargo shorts right now! XD I’m a girl and many times I’m too lazy to carry a bag so I just stuff my wallet and cell phone in the pockets. So functional!

But I hate it when I get cargo shorts and realize the pockets are fake -__-"

Cargo shorts… on a girl… uhh… yeah

That’s like wearing capris…

You don’t wear cargo shirts on campus. That’s #1 rule of college.

Oh mah gee. I have never thought of matching my cargo shorts with cargo shirts. brb. Investing in new shirts.

The tip to dressing for success is to wear what you feel comfortable in, provided these two things are true:
- It doesn’t have holes in it
- It doesn’t stink

When you dress comfortably (within reason, of course) you’ll be able to do things more confidently - and that’s a big deal. If you feel more confident wearing chinos and a tucked in Lacoste shirt with sperry shoes and those giant nerd glasses, so be it. If you would rather wear cargo shirts, great… and if you’d like to wear a kilt, well, more power to you :D

At UCD I see people wearing everything - including kilts. Pretty much the most universally worn pieces of clothing I see are:
- Hoodies, especially school hoodies.
- Sandals.

I really highly suggest daily showers though.

Are some Sperry’s cooler than others? Any opinion on these:

Boat shoes are boat shoes. Really though, I don’t see them half as often as the HSL guys here insist.

Nobody notices the brand of a shoe; rather, the style is more obvious.

Why not just go for these? I refuse to waste money.

The sooner you find the strength to wear the clothes you want to wear, the happier you’ll be.

I know many (perhaps most) will disagree with the above statement, but I strongly believe in it. Stop living your live according to how you think others will feel.

@Chardo. Not those. Check out leeward ones in the same catalog. Just remember they won’t work in winter unless you’re in cali.

I have a lot of different kinds of clothing I can wear Everything from dress clothes to well, tripp pants. XD

Tripp pants are incredibly comfortable, the only problem is when they get caught on furniture! I usually just go with jeans and a tshirt, or basketball shorts and a tshirt though.

Kinda tough to say whether a good loose pair of jeans shorts is more comfortable than basketball shorts though. ponders

" Really though, I don’t see them half as often as the HSL guys here insist."

why anyone would take the word of high schoolers on what’s what in college is beyond me

You can never go wrong with a pair of cargos, chucks or vans, and a graphic tee. At my school, you would see people wearing just about everything. There are guys that wear basketball shorts, running shoes, and tee shirts. There are guys that wear jean shorts, sandals, and white tees. And there were guys that really care about how they look and would wear a pair of jeans or chino pants and a button down. The thing I noticed once I got to college though was that for the most part, noone cared about how they looked. (Which is definitely not the case in high school).
