College Courses in HS

Disclaimer, I'm not really sure where to put this.

My question:

I know that when one takes college courses in HS, they 99% of the time show up on the future college attended's transcript as transfer credit, meaning the credit transfers, but the grade doesn't (it's a T).

Do these College in HS grades show up to Med/Dental schools however? If one got an A-, would it be better not to transfer it and take the course again for a full A in "real" college (forget cost)?

I don’t know about Dental schools, but for allopathic med schools, the grades for ALL college grades that you ever took (no matter when, and even if a college gives grade replacement) are included in gpa calculation by AMCAS, see page 37:

https://www.aamc.org/students/download/182162/data/amcas_instruction_manual.pdf

It doesn’t matter if the credit/grade transfers to another college or not, as you will send transcripts from all colleges attended.

DO schools do permit grade replacement.

Moved to a more appropriate forum; please repost on the Pre-Dent/Dent forum for that input.

Most premed students actually “retake” classes during their first year in order to pad their GPA before the really hard courses. Having taken the course before (as a college or AP version) gives you an advantage that far outweighs the ability to “skip” a class if your goal is med school attendance.

Actually, this is not true. The more selective the college, the less likely they will accept college credit from courses taken in high school. HYPSM et al will not accept these kinds of credits unless they were taken during a summer course at the university that you end up matriculating to – ie: If you take a summer course at Harvard during high school YPSM et all will not accept the transfer credit if you matriculate to their school, but Harvard will accept the credit if you attend their school. It’s best to check the website of each college’s registrar’s office to see what credits they will accept. That said, for those colleges that do accept credits from high school courses taken at a college, you must have a grade in the course for the credits to transfer.

Dental schools also require transcripts from every college you’ve ever attended just like med schools do.

D. had college credit for History, her hardest class in HS. She wanted to make sure to take care of this before college. She never had to take it again, despite the fact that this class required in her major.
She also never re-took English and Math classes that she got credits for her APs.
However, despite the fact that she got 5 on her her AP Bio, she took ALL Bios at college starting with the very first class. She was advised to do so and it was absolutely correct advice. Her very first Bio went thru AP class material in the first 2 weeks and then they moved on. She said she would miss out a lot if she did not take and it could have affected her perfornance in the upper level college Bio classes.
So, credits from HS years depend on the subject and also on your UG program. I heard from many others that skipping first Bio becasue of 5 in AP Bio was absolutely fine. Would have not been the case at D’s UG.

Thanks all! Very helpful.
