I just read in another thread about how UC weights everyone’s GPA for admissions. I am wondering if all colleges do this (create weighted GPAs themselves)? What is the system most colleges use? More specifically, what system does MIT or Caltech use? And what would be good weighted GPAs on that system.

Each college is different. Some use the exact GPA noted on your high school transcript. Some recompute to only include unweighted grades. Some, like the UC's, only look at certain grades in certain classes. Best bet: ask the schools you are applying to directly how they use the GPA in admissions.

For a lot of people, it would be an advantage to have colleges recalculate their GPA. Too many people have inflated GPA's.

Yeah, that's why I am wondering. My GPA seems pretty low, but I have taken tons of APs and honors, so a recalculated GPA would probably help me. Thanks for the idea, carolyn, I'll post the answers when I get them.

So the UCs...actually sit down and looks at everyone's and changes them?

Yeah, I think so. Does anyone know any other colleges that do this?

That must take A LOT of time, with all the applicants and all!
