I'm very torn between two schools right now and would appreciate any insight or advice. I love JMU and its business program, which would allow me to pursue my interests in Accounting and Computer Science because it has two classes that combine both areas. I also like its strict Accounting curriculum for Accounting majors...you take a few marketing and economic classes, but its mainly accounting.
On the other hand is William and Mary. It is a much more challenging and well renowned school. However, it is a liberal arts school and because of that, you take a wide variety of classes. I completely understand and agree with having a wide knowledge base, but I don't want to take just as many marketing classes as accounting classes when I'm an accounting major.
Again, any insight or advice is appreciated, as well as clearing up any misconceptions I may have. Thank you.

W&M offers an accounting major with 9 required accounting classes, 1 marketing.
It's up to you. They're very different schools. The only real academic difference is that W&M doesn't offer extra accounting electives.

W&M is gives you so much more if you ever change your mind. Plus your peer group will be higher. What you are interested in at 18 is different than when you were 14. The same will be true when you are 22 vs 18. College is a chance to explore youre intellectual side. W&M is one of the best in the country at educating the whole mind. College should not be a Vo-Tech experience.

But in business, contacts help. And very few people at W&M will be interested in going into business.

I agree with ferryboat10. It's your future. But if I had to choose, I would go with JMU. It matches your interests, it's better for what you want to do in business. It's all about business.
