College football 2023 šŸˆ

I was totally impressed with CU. Getting blown out last week and could of been a repeat then got coached up at half time and scoring that many points against an elite team is impressive. Oregon and Washington are no joke. I am impressed with Coach Sanders. Maybe some here donā€™t remember him as a player? He usually talk the talk but can walk the walk. Just to make that game close is crazy.

Alsoā€¦ Go Blue!

This. :100:% this.

UGA is my main team and I have no idea why weā€™re still ranked #1. Weā€™re not playing that way yet. Fingers crossed we get it together next week!:black_heart::heart::black_heart:

Happy for my other teamā€¦ Michigan.

He really is a different type of coach. He stays very focused even though Boulder is a circus with Fox making it the permanent home of Big Noon Kickoff, NFL scouts (there were 30 of the 32 NFL teams there yesterday), NBA, NFL, rappers, etc all there. I donā€™t even know where they are putting them all.

But CUā€™s team is really small. Against Nebraska and Oregon, they looked miniature. Fast as jackrabbits, but tiny. Prime needs one more year of recruiting off the portal to build the offensive and defensive lines.

Dion Sanders is an outstanding coach. Knows the game & is a great motivator & recruiter. Wise investment by CU-Boulder.

Yepā€¦ He was a great player. Both of his kids play at high levels for kids coming from a small school. I like underdogs.

Not sure Iā€™d call Deion or his kids underdogs at this point. The kids had every advantage (Iā€™m guessing) and started at a small college only because dad was coaching there.

But agree, Deion is doing a great job at CO.

Edited to correct spelling.

They have made $20M on ticket sales, $90M in advertising and merchandise sales thru the first 3 games, more in concessions (and at $13/beer, thatā€™s a lot) and game day sales (parking, stadium seat rentals). The city of Boulder estimates it makes $18M per home game on hotels, restaurants, merchandise sales.

Prime is making $5.5M this year (plus his commercials and merchandise sales). Pretty good ROI.

Of course Prime needs to make money to cover the parking ticket he got on his Lamborghini last week. Even coaches canā€™t park illegally on campus. That was probably $50 (he was in a non-parking spot)

Iā€™d like to respectfully and politely point out the correct spelling of Deion. :slightly_smiling_face:

His original name was Dion; not sure when or if he legally changed it. He didnā€™t like announcers mispronouncing it so changed it to De-ion.

I have no idea whatā€™s running through Deionā€™s head, but he can roughly double that salary at say a Michigan State, although heā€™s NOT taking that job. But other top college jobs are and will become available, and maybe even the NFL.

Having said that, CU will more than likely give him a substantial bump to keep him and his kids at CU for a couple +/- more seasons. Then, ā€œhe gone.ā€

So, youā€™re saying that his name is spelled Deion.

The obvious team where Deion may take a job in the future is with the Dallas Cowboys, since Mike McCarthy is a missed Super Bowl/NFC Championship game away from being fired by Jerry Jones.

I donā€™t know if he legally changed it. I used to work as a magistrate and one of my duties was name changes. You canā€™t believe how many people never legally changed their names and just started using another spelling, even on legal documents. No one stopped them, so they just kept doing it until something happened, like they wanted a passport or they filed their taxes and they were bounced back.

I had a lot of 50-60 year old people come in to have their names legally changed, sometimes by just a letter or two - Catherine to Katherine or Jeffrey to Jeffery. Or Dion to Deion. These people often had a DL or other document with their preferred name on it, but couldnā€™t get the passport or SSN or something they needed because of the different spelling.

His son is Deion Jr and his daughter Deiondra. There are so many Sanderses running around we use their preferred names, Prime, Bucky, Bossy, #2ā€¦

Underdog in the sense they are at a school that won 1 game last year. He worked with his kids at a HBCU school. Not exactly a power 5 school. He elevates and wins where ever he goes to. He played almost always as the highest level as a player. His QB son I read is something like 285/7 in his entire win /loss record since playing football. Itā€™s not like Sanders took over a known entity of a team. He made all those successes himself. CU didnā€™t have the money to pay him but said they would get the money. He took that deal betting on himself (like I tell the kids on CC all the time).

Then they beat TCU out of the gateā€¦ They should of beaten USC with the best QB in the nation. We all saw the difference after halftime. Itā€™s amazing to me how he motivates these kids that arenā€™t household names. Sure he got a few really good players. So does every team.

I just give credit where itā€™s due. Not sure how good this team will be this year but the story is interesting at least.

Agree that it is an great story.

Since debate is not allowed on CC, we can agree to disagree about the underdog label.

It is really hard to explain the difference Prime has made at CU. It isnā€™t just football. Itā€™s everything. They have the biggest freshman class theyā€™ve ever had, and it is mostly an increase in instate students. The money is pouring in. The excitement. His celebrity friends show up on Thursday and donā€™t leave until Monday.

No other coach has done this. Not Bill McCartney, not Mel Tucker. They kept their players separate from the student body but Prime has incorporated them, involved all the students he can. He does little films with Ralphie, he dances with alums, he goes to basketball and soccer games.

Prime is all about the school. He started his press conference today announcing the players of the week - the academic players of the week. Heā€™s said heā€™s not going to start a player with Fs. They go to class. HE goes to their classes. He knows their families and a couple of them have moved to Boulder. He wants his sons to stay and play one more year (each) at CU and graduate. They have NIL contracts so it is not as imperative as it was in the past for a player to get into the NFL draft as soon as possible. I think Shedeur (the QB) is making $3M in NIL contracts.

But, alas, the Cinderella clock struck midnight, and Fox and ESPN have packed their trucks and cameras. This week weā€™re on the da** Pac-12 network which I donā€™t get on my TV. It will be me going old school - listening to the game on the radio.

I canā€™t sleep thinking about this weekendā€™s Red River Shootout. :metal:t4:

I prefer to listen to the radio broadcast. The TV announcers donā€™t match Mark Johnsonā€™s enthusiam when CU scores. I just love hearing him say ā€œTOUCHDOWN COLORADO!ā€

Wow! Good for Boulder.

I got the Covid booster yesterday. Iā€™m not sure whether thatā€™s part of the problem, but this Red River Rivalry is EXHAUSTING and the first quarter just ended.
