^ Easily (+10)

Indeed we are. Some of us were about to cry after that game =

What the hell is going on in college football this year? I haven’t seen this many upsets. But, my team is still winning and will be in the top ten this week!!!

I find this interesting:
Hawaii 17-13 Utah State, 2nd; U-State is winless, Hawaii ranked #16 and undefeated, playing at home.
Personally, I like seeing teams succeed massively that don’t ordinarily do so, or not recently, e.g. South Florida, Cincinnati, South Carolina, Arizona State, UC-Berkeley.

^ Illinois as well! 3-0 in the Big 10 for first time since 1990…first defeat over a top 5 team since 1989!

College football is great!

The year of the underdog?

I’m sad Florida lost, we were def. cheering for yall this week in Auburn. I was really hoping they’d be able to knock down the douchebaggery that is LSU fans, for once. And losing twice in a row, man, that sucks (we should know) but hey, at least you lost to 2 GOOD teams twice in a row, Auburn lost to USF- who is pretty damn good- but then freakin MS State! ***?! worst team in the SEC! Obviously, we won this week because we were playing Vanderbilt, SECOND worst team in the SEC.

I am SO GLAD USC finally lost!! We were all definitely cheering for Stanford tonight! Good for them, knocking a team who is way too stuck up down a peg.

At least our band still won :)

And halftime was fun. The USC Rugby team re-enacted The Play, dressed up in Stanford and Cal football & band uniforms.

Plus Stanford played really, really well.

And I might point out that this shows just how deep the Pac-10 is :)

I never thought I’d hear myself saying this, but GO STANFORD. No one likes USC =P. Sadly, I don’t think Cal will move up at all - OSU will probably pass us this week (they destroyed random.team and we didn’t play).

Anyone else notice that Urban Meyer is hella ■■■■■■■■? With a little over a minute to go in the LSU-UF game, he lets the clock roll down 20 seconds and THEN calls a time out…?

You know the USC loss to Stanford isn’t that shocking. I’ve been watching Southern Cal play all its games so far this season, and while they performed well away against Nebraska (decent accomplishment) otherwise they’ve never looked particularily good, never looked that strong. The media would insist otherwise, that the Trojans have been blowing away all its opponents so far and the Stanford loss is a “stunner.” If you actually watch the games objectively, USC hasn’t been that strong anyway. The point differences, in the end, haven’t been that huge. The penalties and the interceptions and the dropped balls have not screamed, “Number 1 team.”

I remember last week watching the Huskies vs. the Trojans and how much trouble Washington was giving them. They barely escaped that game, that should have been a big clue that something wasn’t right with the team. You can’t be number 1 or 2 in the country and struggle so badly with an unranked team that commits mistake after mistake themselves. I lost count of the penalties that USC made, and the Huskies weren’t that much better. Quite an ugly game. It reminded me a little of this year’s Wisconsin and Texas teams-- struggling to win game by game until the house of cards finally comes down.

Do I think USC will come back with a vengeance and do extremely well? Maybe. They still have Oregon games and Cal to think about it. And the Domers.

Which brings us to congrats to Notre Dame. Break that losing streak, Domers. And at an away game in the Rose Bowl no less.

PS: I was rooting for Florida all the way last night. Someone needs to bring down those bayou bums. How excellent it would be if it were like, Kentucky.

^ I agree 100% with your post, marge.

But it’s STANFORD, the team that should have gone 0-12 had they not gotten an upset over UW last year. I definitely agree that USC hadn’t looked good prior to the Stanford loss, but I have to disagree that it wasn’t a shocker. Stanford is not a team you would normally expect to upset USC–if it were any other team in the top 25, or even a decent 4-1 team, it wouldn’t have been nearly as surprising.

Quirkily, I said that it wasn’t THAT shocking, not that “it wasn’t a shocker” at all.

UCBChemEGrad, how amazing would it be if Berkeley got into the National Championship? Do you think there’s a chance?

It’s never looked better, marge_sherwood. But Cal still has to play ASU, UCLA, and UW away and USC at home. Not the easiest schedule, but it could be done.

It can be done, and it might just be done Saxon. Look who’s the new number two

To be honest, I really want Cal to do well so we won’t have to watch a massively boring Ohio State vs South Florida/Missouri/Cinncinnati/Boston College/Kansas championship game. I mean, does anyone really think those are the best teams in the country? Or do they have decent talent but, most importantly, massively sweet schedules?

New rankings are up on si.com, and save the whining, quirkily:

22 Texas 4-2
23 Georgia 4-2
24 Purdue 5-1
25 Auburn 4-2 (previously unranked)

^ They already released the new polls?!

USC should have been dropped further.

Marge, I think this is Cal’s year. They just need to stay focused and healthy. But, honestly, I’d rather have Cal go to the Rose Bowl and win versus go to the NC game and lose.

The AP poll doesn’t matter…we need the Coaches and Harris Interactive poll…

The first BCS poll will be released next week.

The list marge posted is the coaches poll.

And marge, calm down. I have nothing against you, but somehow a simple request (that, while maybe a bit anal, isn’t entirely unreasonable) makes you react violently to anything I say? Seriously, it’s not a big deal.

^ You’re right, it is the Coaches poll. I was looking at Yahoo and they didn’t have the coaches poll up yet.

I’m actually suprised the Coaches didn’t vault tOSU in front of Cal…

With the SEC championship game, maybe the Gators’ can avenge the loss to LSU.

You’re right, it’s not a big deal. It’s also hardly reacting “violently.” I guess a far more fitting word is “condescendingly.”
