Yeah I’d think Notre dame would be best fit in the Big 10 but the likelihood of that happening is slim-to-none. Notre dame would lose far too much revenue…

Pitt or Mizzou would be two other schools that I think would be a nice fit in the big 10 as well.

I really think Pitt would be the best bet for the Big 10. It would create a conference championship and renew the Penn State-Pitt rivalry. If the Big 10 worked it out properly (make north and south divisions instead of east and west), they could make sure that Ohio State and Michigan were in different divisions and could play in a conference championship.

Ohio State and Michigan may not play every year which could hurt the conference, but they would likely play in important conference championship games which could only help out the Big 10.

No way would they split up Ohio State-Michigan like that…either they will end up in the same division or either adopt a SEC style schedule where you have a fixed opponent in the other division each year (and fix Ohio State-Michigan)

A conference championship game would add revenue for the conference as a whole but each school will be thinking about their own revenue too. No matter how bad the teams are Ohio State-Michigan will bring ticket sales every year.

Non-football sports at Notre Dame are already in the Big East, presumably that would change to follow along with football if they joined a different conference.

It may not be as far-fetched as it sounds. It’s been discussed previously (notably, as the old SWC conference was crumbling in the early 90s) and there are some buzzings about it again now. Aside from geography, Texas is probably one of the best fits for any expansion of the Big 10 - even more so than ND. Seems to be the ideal athletics/academics/media package the Big 10 wants. Texas could still keep out of conference rivalvry games with Oklahoma and A&M. Thoughts?

The Big 10 is not going to get Texas. The best candidate for the Big 10, barring a miracle that gives Notre Dame a change of heart, is Mizzou, because it’s already rivals with Illinois, could be rivals with Iowa, adds the St. Louis media market, and, most importantly, strengthens a future West Division.

Say the Big 10 expands to one of the other likely locations, like Pitt, Syracuse, or Rutgers. The east division consists of the new expansion along with Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, and another school (likely Purdue). Not only would the new team get crushed, but the East Division would almost always beat the West Division in a championship game.

Now imagine the Big 10 with Mizzou. A West Division of Mizzou, Illinois, Northwestern, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin would be weaker than the East Division, but not by as much. Also, all of the rivalries are preserved, while expanding to the east splits up Indiana and Purdue.

Would be great if mizzou moved to the big ten and than tcu can replace mizzou in the big 12. Also, what about boise state in the pac 10? Instead of putting these non-bcs teams together in bowl games, lets see how they play with the big boys. I know many people have already posted this, but this is what I would like it to be. Another thing, even though the seasons almost over, I still find it hard to believe that matt barkley is better than aaron corp and mitch mustain? mitch was one of the best qb’s coming out of high school and had a great year at Arkansas.

It’s simple…either his girlfriend is paying for the car, in which case there’s no issue, or this guy is paying for the car, in which case they should make McKnight ineligible for the emerald bowl or beyond, no excuses. They can trace money, accounts, receipts…there will be proof one way or the other.

also, can’t wait for someone to claim that USC bought McKnight the car…that’s not what is alleged people!

Of course not, but no one is accusing USC of that. This guy is not a USC agent or booster and doesn’t have any affiliation to USC.

I’m just saying that there are two possibilities here. IF McKnight’s girlfriend pays for the car, what issue is there? (you really want to prevent players from using their girlfriend’s car?)

The whole $$ being the reason why ND wouldn’t join the B10 is a myth.

ND makes $15 mil/yr from its NBC contract; each B10 school gets more than $20 mil from its various TV contracts (including the B10 network) and that amount will continue to grow w/ the BTN.

Furthermore, any $$ associated w/ FB pales in comparison to the research monies affiliated w/ universities - and the B10 has the bigget chunk of the research money pie out of all the conferences.

The problem w/ Pitt is that it doesn’t bring in a new TV market.

UT did approach the B10 about joining the conf. not long after PSU joined the B10.

If Mizzou leaves the B12, that really hurts the conf. since it Missouri contains the B12’s 3rd largest TV market.

Also, the $$ associated w/ academics/research plays a bigger role than what one might think (which was the initial reason why UT wanted to join the B10).

The Texas legislature, however, likely wouldn’t allow it unless the B10 took A&M as part of a package deal.

But it’s a big reason why a school would want to join a conference (the primary factor Texas wanted to join the B10 some years back was to raise its academic profile and all the research $$/cooperation w/ the CIC).

oregon st didn’t play their game plan. They went on 4th and 10 in their own 30 yard line in the beginning of the 3rd quarter. *** was that? That gave BYU short field advantage and put the game out of reach early. Obviously Oregon St didn’t want to play in that bowl. MWC isn’t so bad after all, they went 2-0 and might go 3-0 tonight against Cal.
