It’s unfortunate that Urban Meyer is stepping down as head coach of UF.

Refs are 0/3 on reviews in the Emerald Bowl so far. Almost makes you wonder what the point of the system is sometimes.

Urban Meyer was a good coach but couldn’t handle the stress of losing Tebow. jk

Yeah the replay system was useless that game. When refs look at replays they should get the exact footage as viewers at home WITH THE COMMENTARY. I think that’d help a little. And they should have the ability to control the footage themselves with slow-mo, etc. Most importantly, they should pause the footage when the play is conclusive. EX: when a sideline catch is reviewed, it should be mandatory for the replay to be paused when the catch is made and his foot is inbounds. The reason for this: its easier to determine a catch (or other re-viewable plays) from a picture instead of moving footage.

On the whole a successful season for USC. Maybe not by inflated standards, but 9 wins, wins over UCLA and ND, a bowl win (to make USC the all time bowl wins leader at least until January), a defense well stocked with freshmen and sophomores with extensive playing time, and the true franchise QB that USC has not had since Matt Leinart.

Emerald bowl: The first two reviewed calls were questionable but there wasn’t indisputable evidence either way. The replay crew did the right thing and upheld the call on the field even if the original call was iffy.

The third, they got the call right though the rules are ambiguous. The USC player was engaged in a block and his movement was restricted, and therefore was blocked into the path of the punt. Does being “blocked into a punt” mean “touches the ball as a result of the block” (what happened) or “being physically forced into the ball”?

I am hoping his health is ok. Being a head coach at that level must be really demanding mentally and physically, with all the travel and recruiting and stress and such. Hopefully a year off will help him a lot.

Football wise I’m disappointed Pete Carroll and Urban Meyer never had a chance to square off head to head in the past few years. Two of the winningest coaches of this decade, and when you think of the dominant teams of the decade, they would be USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and USC got a chance to play 2 of the 3 others (the irony being that I kind of like UF and would love for USC to play them)

Being engaged in a block is only an excuse if he was pushed into the ball. That was clearly not the case.

^Agreed. That wasn’t even a block, they were holding hands. A block requires some kind of push, I didn’t see either of them push.

I smell Roses.

I loved that Youtube video. It was almost as uplifting as watching the highlights from the 2007 Michigan game.

The Pac-10 is getting embarassed

They really are getting embarrassed, but Oregon and Stanford have very winnable games against Ohio State and Oklahoma respectively. They have the possibility of breaking even.

hey Oregon is a BCS team. They desrroyed those men of troy

Yeah the Pac-10 is getting embarrassed.

The real embarrassment is going on with Lane Kiffin, some school from Knoxville, and some supposedly dominant conference located in the Southeast.

Yeah I don’t get why their 2010 recruiting class is so stacked.

Did anybody just hear the comment made by the color commentary guy during the Hokie/Vol game? The one about Williams’ mom texting him. What a terrible, untasteful, and unfunny comment to make on national TV.

What did he say?

It showed VT’s RB’s mom texting in the stands, and he’s like “She’s texting me right now. I’ll answer her after the broadcast.” He was trying to be funny, but he made it sound like she was cheating on her husband w/ him.

LOL that’s funny! I bet Matt Millen was the one who said that.

because there are good football players all over the south

Great sky at the Rose Bowl this evening. It’s easy to see what makes it the greatest football stadium in the country.
