College Girls are so CATTY

Is it just me or is there so many childish college kids who act like they are in MIDDLE school?

I just had a falling out with a friend. For the past week, I had been trying to contact her, texting, calling, facebook, etc, and she has purposely ignored my calls. She is the only friend I really have, and as far as I'm concerned, she has no other friends either. Recently her bf got kicked out of college (academic reasons), and she is on academic probation. Her bf will be living the state to go to a fancy mechanic school.

I have been very supportive of her and her bf, given her someone to talk to and perhaps some advice. But I too have had many stressful things going on with my life.

I talked to her bf over facebook and asked him what the deal was, and she is basically ****ed off at me, thinks I have been acting distant and not myself. Yeah, like that really gives her the reason to ignore for a week.

I don't get it with some college kids. She is the second friend I have had a falling out. One trend I have noticed though is that both girls are fairly young (both turned 18 late in college). Both have been very immature towards me, one even called me names.

I swear, I am so sick of girls. Girls are so CATTY. I don't know what else to do. I feel like giving up because female friends are so not worth the drama.

I so agree. Why do girls even go to college? They need to go a school where the learn how to be future housewives IMHO.

Girls are always catty, from elementary school to nursing home. Sucks about your friend but I’d just stop contacting her unless she makes a move first and wants to reconcile.

Yeah, it’s just called being a girl. and maturity should have nothing to do with age, you just found the wrong crowd

males are the superior ra, err, gender!

It’s the female gender.

My mother has four sisters, all of them are in their 50’s and they are still catty with each other. It’s like every year they rotate to one sister to hate for the year, then they become best friends, then move on to a different sister.

I’m not trying to turn this into a Men V. Women thing, but I have to say…men really arent like this. Me and each one of my good buddies have at one time or another gotten into blow outs that resulted in takedowns, headlocks and punches. We then called each other a few dirty names, sobered up and got over it.

You know what DC?

I know you are joking and all, but guys, as a whole, behave WAY better than girls. They say girls mature faster than guys, well I disagree. I much prefer a guy’s way of thinking. Girls hold grudges, misconstrue words and actions, and are just plain *****y and mean-spirited to one another. Guys, on the other hand, will duke it out and then be cool the next day.

I need some male friends. Girls are just too *****y, immature, and stupid to really have a meaningful friendship with.

Exactly, BigEast.

I have three brothers, and yeah, we don’t all get along, but one thing I’ve noticed is that when my brothers fight, they fight and then it is a wrap. When two girls fight, it is prolonged and years of grudges.

I personally would prefer it if she would just say what she needed to say and get it out of her system. Ignoring me for days at a time because I was stressed out and couldn’t hang out with her as much is juvenile.

DUDE what is your Mom’s name? I could swear you are my cousin.

I’ve never had this problem with my friends.
Perhaps you just surround yourself with juvenile catty people.

yay gender-stereotyping ftw!!!

Seriously if you don’t get along with your friends because they exhibit “girlie” traits, go get other friends that are less frustrating. That is after you’ve told the person responsible for your frustration how you feel.

Hmm, none of my friends are like this. We all have our immature moments but there’s never any catty drama. I never had to deal with any in HS either. Sounds like you’ve just got some sucky friends. Go find a new one! :)

The good thing about girls is (and I hope this doesn’t offend you) that I feel like the catty drama-junkie girls all befriend each other and act stupid together, and the normal girls similarly befriend each other. So if you’re not the catty type, chances are you won’t be sucked into that mess.

Now, 2 of my roommates last semester were like this and I couldn’t help living with them. So I just kept our relationship to a polite minimum and didn’t hang out in the dorm too much. The funny part is they thought they were SO mature and would always shriek I’M A 21 YEAR OLD WOMANNN I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO BLAHBLAHBLAH OHMYGOSHHH BTW RACHEL IS SUCH A PIGGG

My wife has 3 sisters, and OMG you wouldn’t believe the gossip and crap talking that goes on.

As soon as one leaves the room, the other 3 start going off about the other’s new boyfriend, the outfit she has on, the comment she made last night, ect. I sit there and think, “Geeze, is this the stuff they say when I leave the room?”

They hold grudges, gang-up on eachother, pout and TOTALLY turn non-issues into major conflicts, “OMG, Jennifer said she is going to name her first daughter Rose, I totally called that name like 2 years ago at Shannons wedding shower - what a slut.”

lol…Seriously? You aren’t married, don’t have a serious relationship, and you’re ****ed about your sister wanting to name her daughter (who also isnt married, or pregnant) a name you like? lol…

But 5 minutes later, they are the best of friends - until we leave and get in the car, then its, “OMG, did you see that skirt Shannon had on, *** - I would never wear that to a family function.”

Girls tend to “grow up” quicker than men do physically, but emotionally and socially, not so much. Girls, especially new college students, tend to overestimate their maturity thanks to their newfound independence and can end up having serious social problems, leading to poor academic performance or whatever.

Also, female friendships are a lot more cutthroat than male friendships. Girls tend to fight over the silliest things and hold grudges, whereas guys may argue/have a fistfight, but will be fine later on. Whenever my girl friends get into an argument, my guy friends and I just sit back and laugh.

I’m scratching my head…
Maybe I’m an outlier but I’ve never…* never * had this mentality toward other people (yes, even girls) in my entire life, middle school included. Sure, I get frustrated toward other peoples’ behaviors and I rant in private to a close friend (or, in most cases, my sister) and sound completely catty and merciless, but I think it degrades a person’s character to do so in an open forum.
Then again, I’ve always been something of a “lone wolf”. I’ve had friends, I’m socially proficient, but I don’t go out most weekends unless I’m spending time with my boyfriend.
And perhaps I’m like a guy this way (??) but I follow a simple policy:
If you are nice to me, then I am nice to you.

So you talk about people behind their backs while being nice to them in person??

^That’s what it sounds like to me lol. I always thought honesty and openness were good things, but maybe that’s just me being a guy who doesn’t care to have superficial relationships with others.

wow…talk about femalke bashing…
sure, there are catty girls, but not much posted here seems to be at the height of maturity either…either you guys have some serious misconceptions or are just joking around for the heck of it
seriously though, there are plenty of catty girls the way there are plenty of obnoxious jerky guys, I haven’t given up on the entire male gender because of any jerks I’ve met and I haven’t given up on femlae friends because some girls can be catty. honestly though, girls mature younger then guys.

Ditto.

As far as I know, I’ve been a female since I was born. I have a lot of female friends. We don’t have this problem. If anything, I’ve had this problem more with guys. Maybe you just attract immature people. Which wouldn’t surprise me.

That isn’t the case. I was always shy and quiet growing up. And now I am trying to make friends in college, I have found that girls just really aren’t worth the hassle. I went to an all-girls school and saw how *****y they were to each other. I was never like that, so to be backstabbed by two girls…I’m just done with the drama. Guys are by far more superior in terms of their social skills.

I agree. She just turned 18 in January and she was tooting about how she was a “grown” woman and everything like that. BS, considering she doesn’t have a license, never has had a steady job, or exemplified anything that would make her seem adult. Besides, being 18 doesn’t make a person “grown”, life experiences and maturity do.

And ironically she has also performed poorly, and she always blames everyone for her problems, the professors, the schools, everyone. She never takes accountability for her actions. My bf has offered help, and I would have liked to have helped her out, but instead she treats me like crap.

You see, I raise in a household of mostly guys, and maybe I’m just like them. I would prefer to duke it out for a few minutes and then chill. I never understood girls and their *****y behavior. We always talk about feminism and such and such, but I seem more women tearing each other down than bringing themselves up.
