Do you know someone who has done/is doing it, and what do they study? Do you think these graduates with a BA/BSc and an Accociate's will have an advantage in the job market over those who went to CC straight out of high school?

I know a person who did that. He graduated with a four-year degree (I don’t know what it’s in), then went back to CC to get a degree in plumbing. He works as a plumber and is doing very well financially.

I’ve seen lots doing it. Within my own age group ( 50+), students are changing fields after layoffs or retirement in order to do something more appealing.

I was studying in a sustainable agriculture program at my CC, and quite a few were engineers from various companies ( computer engineers as well as aeronautical). They were attracted by the pull of nature, to put it simply.

I’ve also known a few students whose degrees were perhaps a little esoteric and they went back to get training that was more vocational.

D1’s BF did it. He has a MFA in painting and was financially comfortable working as a graphic designer, but got tired it. He went back to a CC and earned his paramedic certification and now works for a county fire department. He’ll be able retire with a full pension at 50 after 20 years of service.

I know somebody who got BA in interior design and currently finishing RN 2-yrs program at local community college.

I have a niece who is returning for an associates in nursing. She has a degree in English, but there are no jobs for liberal arts graduates in her small town midwest community.

Our local community college has a program for college grads that provides students with the classes needed to take the CPA exam. I know a couple of college grads who did not major in accounting and went through this type of program to become CPA’s.
