College of Continuing Education

I was denied admission to the Carlson School of Management. However, I received a letter in the mail today about their Inter College Program (ICP) in their College of Continuing Education. I visited the website and am a little confused still about what it exactly is. For anyone with any information, I can obtain a B.S degree in two-three areas of study? I originally wanted to major in Finance and Risk Management at CSOM. What exactly is this ICP program through their College of Continuing Education?

Essentially, you get a general degree based on interdisciplinary study in areas of your choice.

Great if you are looking to further your education. IMO not a good idea if you want to get some kind of credential with future utility.

Hello,
The Inter College Program is a design-your-own-degree program at the University of Minnesota. What this means is that you will be allowed to combine different areas of studies into a degree that fits your interests. For example, you can use Finance and Economics or Economics with IT.

How does this look to potential employers? Because you have taken the time to develop your degree plan, you are better able to talk with prospective employers about what you studies and why. For example if you received a degree in a traditional field like Communications, you would list it on your resume and probably not talk about it in the interview. (Because we all have a pretty good idea of what a communications degree is.) Now if you designed an ICP degree in Global Trade, you could take a few lines to explain what you studied by combining Carlson School of Management, Manufacturing Operations Management and Economics coursework. This will make you stand out from the pack, especially in the interview.
