Here is the new thread for College of Design - class of 2019 wannabes. Hopefully, we will all get good news for Christmas!

How do the College of Design notification dates affect honors programs and honors housing options?

Has anyone received notice or a status change yet? My DD heard that two of her friends were admitted.

My DD heard yesterday. She did not get an interview for Industrial Design. NCSU was not her first choice, but still disapointing.

Awww, sorry about your news unc1957. We are still anxiously waiting. This is a real nail-biter since NCSU is her top pick. I wish they had more spots available, but can appreciate the attention given with the small numbers.

DD got into NCSU, but not design. Her first choice is University of Cincinnati.

Update for those who are curious about the process. Online status has not changed, but DD received an invite for an on campus portfolio review/interview for her and a parent informational session for us.

If DD’s online status did not change, how did she finds do out? A letter? Good luck!
Yes, it came as a letter. Totally surprised us. When she saw it, she thought it was a rejection letter. It also stated that decisions would be made via letter as well. We appreciate the good wishes!
When are the on campus interviews taking place?
Also if you have any questions about the whole process I went through it last year and I’d be happy to answer any questions I can. I applied for Industrial Design last year, got to the interview but didn’t get in (I’m a Design studies major now at NCSU) and I’m reapplying this year. I know the process is nerve racking since it takes forever and you’re kept in the dark for most of it. Good luck to you all!
Having to wait until March is absolute torture. We have heard from most of her other schools with some sweet scholarship offers to boot. Applying early and having to wait while her friends hear back has been the hardest part. Some are already roommate hunting.
Have you heard of anyone going through this process, not getting into Design, and also not getting into their 2nd choice major? At this point she needs to know that at least she is accepted, even if not into Design yet.
I have not heard of anyone getting this far and not getting into their second choice. Most likely she will be accepted to her second choice if she doesn’t get her first. The only major that might not be true for is some of the engineering majors, but I know the College of Design won’t even look at you unless the University approves first, and usually those that make it to the interviews have very competitive stats (as far as GPA and SAT). Some of the smartest people I know are from the College of Design. My second choice was the First Year College, but once I was admitted there, I emailed the College of Design and asked to be placed in Design Studies, which they happily did. I know the wait is killer, but sometimes they release your decision early. Last year I think they told everyone in late February.
Just focus on the portfolio review. Put all of your energy into it. When you go to the review don’t look at everyone else’s work, because it can be daunting. Make sure she just is herself, and can back up her work. Also, don’t stress too hard about it, that’s what ruined me-my mom put to much stress on the whole event.
Trusting, I wholeheartedly agree with Yolanda28.
Please do not let your daughter (or you) compare herself to others. It’s very easy to do on interview day, but try and resist that urge. My daughter (in Art+Design) is always reminding me that Design is not a competition or contest, its a way of life…a way of seeing the world. Encourage her to be herself, have passion for the work she has done, and to be an encourager to the others she meets. Remember, if accepted, these interviewers will be her future professors and the other interviewees will be her friends and classmates.
BTW, as I recall, my D received her final acceptance in WolfPaw around the 1st week of March (2011), even though they were telling us March 15th. Then the stress was further compounded by the FinAid office not providing the aid details until mid-April. Good luck!
Any other Design hopefuls out there just reading the updates? Please feel free to chime in.
The wait is killing us…
Bump
The transfer decisions were just emailed out. This is my second time being denied for Industrial Design. That’s ok though. Just an update.
Yolanda28, sorry to hear that you didn’t get in. Happy that you have a good attitude about it.
@klinger: D got accepted! Thanks so much for your support & advice! What a nerve wracking wait.
