I'm applying to the NC State College of Design, just wanted to reach out to any potential classmates :) I thought it would be cool to review each other's portfolios as well, mine is Flickr: emsemms' Photostream, any feedback would be appreciated. Let me know when any of y'all get any updates about your application status, good luck to everyone!

My daughter is applying to NCSU, though not in Design. She does, however, attend a design and architecture magnet high school so I am familiar with reviewing as I have been doing this for her for 4 years. She has chosen to put her design skills to use in the field of civil engineering which is where she applied.
Your portfolio looks fantastic! You have an excellent variety of pieces using various mediums to display your range and abilities. It it very we’ll put together and shows that you appear to have chosen the pieces that spoke to who you are as an artist. (Many students are drawn to the same types of work and only submit their preference which doesn’t show range.)
I believe you have an excellent chance based on your work. You are very talented! :)

I wish I could help out! I know nothing about art and can’t critique you, but I wish you the best in getting in!

I just got my admissions decision for applied mathematics! I’ll have to see what other options come up, but I might be seeing you next year! Who knows! Good luck!

ensemba, your portfolio looks great, shows some nice variety. The infographic pieces are a nice touch and will probably get some good inquiries when you interview. From what I’ve heard, the COD is most interested in design-thinking and design-process potential. The actual quality of the “art”, while important, is not foremost in what they look for. They’re looking for “design-thinkers”. Hope that makes sense. Good Luck! It’s a long road for COD applicants, since March 2014 is when design students get the final word on acceptance.

The website says they will start sending out emails a week before Christmas, I’m probably going to be glued to my email the whole time to see if I’m invited to the review haha

Mine hasn’t changed? From looking at other threads it seems to be if your status changes to “under review” they’re considering you for the second choice major, however your portfolio was much more impressive than mine. Who knows what’s going on. I wish you the best of luck however emsemba!

Thanks! It’s such a bummer since I spent an insane amount of time working on my portfolio and I really did pour my heart and soul into it. Hopefully I can try to transfer in next year. But good luck to you too Yolanda I hope you get in!!

Your portfolio really is awesome; my daughter loved it too! Her high school is the only visual arts high school in the country and always ranked top 10 magnet schools by US News. (Ranked #4 this year & was #1 and #2 past few years) and she said you would’ve fit right in at her school! She is in the architecture and interior design strand which will be beneficial to her as an engineer. Congratulations again!!

Emsemba-
The same exact thing happened to me! I was so worried because when it changed to under review I convinced myself I would be denied from the college of design! Do you know if only some got accepted without a review in January or if they told everyone early?
