Does anyone know if College Park uses snail mail, e-mail or an internet posting to notify applicants of admissions decisions?

If anyone has already been notified - and its a snail mailing - is it one of those giant envelopes or a reg envelope (we've had a few of each so far) and is there anything on the outside of the envelope that clues you on the contents?

For example - Penn State sent a 9 1/2 by 12 envelope with "Congratulations!" on the outside - UMBC sent the same size with a giant "Yes" on the outside. In contrast, Mount St Mary's sent a traditional
3 1/2 by 9 window envelope that I almost discarded thinking it was junk mail. When I realized it was from the school, I retrieved it. I was curious and confused until D came home and opened it - to find an acceptance letter. It was so different from the others, I had convinced myself it was a rejection letter and was puzzled as to how she could get accepted to Penn State and UMBC and rejected from the less competitive Mount St. Mary's. Then I discovered that the D had actually received an e-mail from them informing her of their decision a few days before and she hadn't mentioned it.

I applied in October, dont know if that makes a bit of difference to them or if it all looks the same as anyone else who applied before december 1st.

Last year my S received an email decision on 2/18 followed by a large envelope. I believe admissions decisions, which included info about honors, scholars, etc., were also available online on the 18th through the app status site. Good luck.

My D. received an email congratulating her and also telling her she had been invited to University Honors. Something like CONGRATULATIONS you have been accepted to the University of MD in addition you have been invited to University Honors..(something like that)...

Cant quite recall as I was too busy jumping up and down and screaming with joy!

Yeah i don't know but it will be to you in a week or two. Also I think(THINK) you will be able to check online around the 15th. Last year I know some of my friends checked online while at school. I am waiting for it too :)

Congrats on Penn State. I also got into penn state. It only took 7 days for a decision to be in my mailbox at home! They were much quicker than maryland and their priority deadline was the day before maryland's. Good thing about Maryland's DEC 1 deadline is that you are automatically concidered for the Hon College. I am applying for business

KLP - Cool! Don't know how you knew that - but its good to know. My D went online last night and went thru the PIN reset process and then went back to the page you bookmarked - she's all set and raring for the 17th! Thanks so much for the info. GGTMom

"When the decisions are released in mid February by mail then the decisions are available online. It will take us about 4 days to release all of our letters starting on the 16th.
Admissions"

D. is a sophomore..so it was year before last..and decisions were delayed due to major snowstorms..It didnt help that one gal who played sports seemed to already "know" she had been admitted even though no one was supposed too.

By the way. holy Lord. OMG. I typed in my info to see what it would say and this is exactly what it said

"We are unable to offer you a decision on your Fall 2005 application at this time.
You will be contacted as soon as the decision process is complete.
Thank you for your interest in the University of Maryland"

but when I read "WE are unable to offer you...Fall 2005". That scared me just a little bit.
woooooooof

sadly ive been checking that admission page since october waiting for it to change to 06. I dont know why considering they dont come out till feb but i was bored and also checking for Michigan at the same time.

The wait ends within the next 2 weeks =D
BTW. I just came home from school and got a hand-written letter from UMCP from a specific department (of which I am applying to*). Obviously I take it as good news if it congratulates me on a well-presented application with specification to certain activities I currently am pursuing. But... did anyone else get something similar? Or should I be ecstatically jumping for joy.

I realize all letters serve a purpose such as an EmoryU one I recieved which faintly echoed that they hoped I would demonstrate my interest in their school (e-mail, campus visit etc.*)

This one seemed to 50% focus on my written words in the application. 20% suggest programs such as HHMI research grants (attracting?) and 30% invitation to visit campus/attend classes of specific interest to my course of study.

I did NOT interview with UMCP. This letter seems to hint that a meeting would be good. And thus I am torn between viewing this as a standard procedure letter for a visit or a really good letter. I already planned to visit =)

Once again, it is hand-written by someone in a specific department (half page*)

I would say if the entire letter was hand-written its definitely something to be happy about, since i haven't heard of CP hand-written letters before. If typed, then I would say it is a standard letter for applicants to gain more perspective of schools, like emory's (unless that one was handwritten too!).

you're right, CP is not known for interviews (and I don't think they offer them either for people interested in them) except for scholarships-- so i'd contact them if I were you about the letter...to meet while you visit.

and a word of warning to those who have applied to department scholarships: some have no relations to undergrad admissions. Bummer. I have an interview the same week as decisions go out.. how much would it suck to interview only to find out that I was rejected? knock on wood!
Will find out soon enough.
