College Park

Hey guys how are you?

I am a highschool senior in Maryland. This year, I am graduating from my highschool with 30 college credits. I started taking classes at my local community college during my sophomore year of high school. I plan to apply to University of Maryland, College Park as a transfer student. My application is due this march for the Fall 2011 semester. My college GPA as of now is a 3.34. What can I do to standout in the transfer admission pool at College Park?
Also, do I have a good shot at being admitted to UMD? Please help since this is the only school I am applying to. Thanks!

can anyone help?

There’s a problem with that. You shouldn’t be filling out the transfer application, you should be filling out the regular admission application. As far as I know, if you’re a high school senior, regardless of how many classes you’ve taken in community college, you should apply with the regular undergraduate admissions application. I think you already stand out since you’re college senior and have been taking college classes since senior year. It might be too late to apply. But I could be wrong. What you can do is volunteer at a local retirement home or something, and get your SAT scores up. SAT scores mean everything. It doesn’t matter what people say, at the end of the day, your SAT score will make or break you with mid-tier colleges like College Park. Good luck!

I know I thought the same thing but the admission advisers at College Park made me an exception. They told me to fill out the transfer application because I have enough credits. They also said I don’t need to send in my high school transcript or SAT scores. They also said my resume is optional. My question is how rigorous is admissions for transfer students in general? And does anyone have any idea of the admissions process at college park?

According to College Board:
Applied: 7,669
Admitted: 3,359
Enrolled: 1,899

So about 46% are accepted, which is slightly higher than the regular admission rate. It may be slightly harder than regular admission though. But the thing is, a lot of the people that apply for transfer are the ones that didn’t get in through regular or early decision. And it will also be a bit more competitive because you’re competing for a spot with the other high school seniors as well. If your grades are good, you should get in.
