college reception for university of alabama - does anyone know if they will have food

we are going to a reception tonight at a local hotel. i don't expect them to have food, but knowing would help me decide what time we need to leave etc.

has anyone been to a university of alabama reception at a local hotel? did they have any type of food?

also, what would one wear to an event like this? i thought my DD would wear nice jeans and a sweater. what do you think is appropriate??

The multi-school event we attended several years ago (not UA), had some cookies and coffee/puch. I wouldn't plan on it being dinner- especially in THIS economy! Let us know what they serve you- might change our opinion of the school! :)

Hi Mike,

Going to a UA reception tonight also :). Food - hmm - most of these receptions have something to munch on: cheese/crackers, fruit, cookies. Clothes range from jeans (decidedly casual) to somewhat dressier - boys in khakis with collared shirts and girls in dresses, skirts, and khakis. My d will probably wear a dress.

Hey- University of Rochester moved up a notch or 2 IMO when they served chocolate chip cookies at their reception. Don't expect much more than cookies-soda-coffee etc. I really doubt that any food of consequence is part of the deal.

nice jeans and a sweater is generally ok- but if you can get her into "dress" slacks and a sweater-- I think it may be a bit more appropriate.

THe only time I saw food to make a full blown meal was a Saturday afternoon event - it started 2:00 or 3:00 so who was expecting to have lunch? I have more often seen cookies as has been mentioned - or nothing. What time is the reception?

I wouldn't worry about what you wear too much - honestly the recruiter isn't likely to remember you. :) They're probably doing 4 cities in 4 days and by the time they get home it will all be a blur. I don't think you should go sloppy - that's a bad way to get remembered :) neither do I think you should fuss too much or overanalyze it. Enjoy and hope you learn a lot! :)

Cookies are the norm, though at one reception we were served fajitas!!!

I was expecting cookies - maybe some cheese and fruit. Instead

Waiters at tables serving:

Roast beef

Mashed baked potatoes and sweet potatoes served in champagne glasses with butter, chives, cheese, marshmallows, ...

Quesdillas with picante sauce

Fruit

Cheese

Desserts

I'm sure I'm missing something - but wow - it was nice.

Southern hospitality!

yeah, i was coming back to report on the menu, but i see someone else already did.

we ended up having dinner on the way, but we did partake in the desserts.

the presentation was good. not much question and answer. they gave the kids a tshirt.

my D loves to get a tshirt.

i think we will visit and she will most likely apply.

we just need to beef up her SAT score to increase her scholarship amount.

Wow! Yum! who would have thought? LOL MOWC, southern hospitality at its best.

Too bad my d isn't interested in large universities, sigh....

Glad it went well, Mike! UA is a beautiful campus.

UA IS small (25 - 30K) compared to our state flagships (45 - 50K)!

Yeah, our state flagship is that size. D wants a school < 1/10 of that :)

The entree will be ‘Pigskin in a Blanket.’
