we are going to a reception tonight at a local hotel. i don't expect them to have food, but knowing would help me decide what time we need to leave etc.

has anyone been to a university of alabama reception at a local hotel? did they have any type of food?

also, what would one wear to an event like this? i thought my DD would wear nice jeans and a sweater. what do you think is appropriate??

The multi-school event we attended several years ago (not UA), had some cookies and coffee/puch. I wouldn't plan on it being dinner- especially in THIS economy! Let us know what they serve you- might change our opinion of the school! :)

Going to a UA reception tonight also :). Food - hmm - most of these receptions have something to munch on: cheese/crackers, fruit, cookies. Clothes range from jeans (decidedly casual) to somewhat dressier - boys in khakis with collared shirts and girls in dresses, skirts, and khakis. My d will probably wear a dress.

Hey- University of Rochester moved up a notch or 2 IMO when they served chocolate chip cookies at their reception. Don't expect much more than cookies-soda-coffee etc. I really doubt that any food of consequence is part of the deal.

nice jeans and a sweater is generally ok- but if you can get her into "dress" slacks and a sweater-- I think it may be a bit more appropriate.

THe only time I saw food to make a full blown meal was a Saturday afternoon event - it started 2:00 or 3:00 so who was expecting to have lunch? I have more often seen cookies as has been mentioned - or nothing. What time is the reception?

I wouldn't worry about what you wear too much - honestly the recruiter isn't likely to remember you. :) They're probably doing 4 cities in 4 days and by the time they get home it will all be a blur. I don't think you should go sloppy - that's a bad way to get remembered :) neither do I think you should fuss too much or overanalyze it. Enjoy and hope you learn a lot! :)
