Miami University (Oxford)
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
Washington University St. Louis
Duke University
Yale University

Also, please recommend any colleges that you would deem to be a good fit. Thanks!

Your SAT score may hurt you but you have great extracurricular activities…
Duke and Yale are high reaches ( Don’t let this discourage you!)
You are a match for the rest!

Much thanks username! I retook the SAT recently (Dec.), hopefully my score will be high enough for Duke and Yale then! If you want me to chance anything of yours, lmk.

Anyone else?

Hello, thanks for chancing me! I was just recently deferred from Michigan so I can maybe chance you. You’ve seen my stats and some people on here told me I had a 99% chance to get in… While I haven’t been rejected, the admissions process is very stressful and awkward this year. Acceptances seem almost random, and there are students with much better stats being deferred. In the 2016 EA thread for Michigan, a guy StanfordCS had a 35 ACT and a high GPA but was deferred while we had cases of 27 ACTs and 3.5 uw GPAs getting accepted early. All we can conclude is that Michigan is deferring especially strong candidates because they may be using them as a backup. The SAT for you is a little low, as well as the subject tests, but your excellent grades make up for it. I wish I could give you a clearer answer, but nobody really knows whats going on in the minds of Michigan’s admissions team…

edit* I also want to add that Michigan is especially focused on the supplement essays for EA. They want to know they are your #1.

edmond, that’s rather interesting. One of my best friends just got accepted into Michigan and his statistics are close to mine. I guess I’ll see what happens.

Anyone else?

Miami University (Oxford) - Match
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor - Match
Washington University St. Louis - Mid Reach
Duke University - High Reach
Yale University - High Reach

The last 3 are definitely reaches but I think you have a shot. I got into Michigan and a lot of people I know got into Michigan with stats similar to yours so I would be pretty optimistic about it if I were you. However, that was EA so if you applied RD I’m not sure how competitive it is.

Miami University-Match
UM-Ann Arbor-Match
Washington University St. Louis-low reach
Duke University-Reach
Yale University-Reach

Your GPA and SAT scores are going to hurt for schools like Yale and Duke, but your ECs are amazing so who knows? I’d say you have a great chance at Miami and Ann Arbor though! Good luck!

Thank you for the feedback everyone! I can only hope that my ECs make up for my sub-par SAT scores for the schools to which I’m applying.

Does anyone have college recommendations for me?

I’d say you have a great chance at getting into the first three, but Duke and Yale will be reaches because of the SAT. The good thing about Yale from personal experience (my dad and ex went there) is that they seem to be really into people who are heavily involved in their school and community so your impressive extracurriculars will definitely help with applying there.

Demodogjr,

With solid, but not spectacular SATs and lack of course rigor (no Calc B/C), Yale is extremely unlikely (see other posts re 5% admit rate expected for RD there and SATs/GPAs of those deferred/rejected there), Duke and Wash U are not much more likely, and Michigan is less than 50/50 if you are OOS and even in state not a lock. I know the mom of a student two years ago with similar stats as yours (although not as good ECs and from a more advantaged school district) that did not get into UM in state and went to MSU instead. You should get into Miami, Ohio whether you are from Ohio or not. But I suggest you add a few more schools to your list and assuming you are from Ohio or Mich maybe go for the honors program at Bowling Green, which is really good. Ditto for Ohio State’s honors program, which my son has applied to (I am from NOVA) and if accepted may choose over much more selective schools including UVA and W&M. Good luck.

for more of a safe school might look at holy cross-very good school near boston. hc is highly rated by forbes, cnbc, kiplingers foe high alumni salary. hc has a january 15th due date and like the ivies is need blind for admissions.

Thank you stalmadge, I didn’t know that Yale looked especially towards community involvement! :D

Muckdogs, In regards to my course rigor, I took the most difficult classes that were available to me; there were scheduling conflicts in regards to AP Calc BC/Physics (plus, I’m not even going into a mathematical based field), and the only reason I don’t have a level 3/4 language is due to school funding cuts. I’m in-state for Ohio and my school is number one in its county. I especially want to go out of state for college and thus I’m facing a conflict in regards to which colleges to look at that are out of state yet have a strong program in regards to what I’m going into, despite the strengths that Honors OSU/Bowling Green offer.

I’m definitely have to check out Holy Cross, thank you par! :D
