Hey CC, I have a slight worry about my forms. My professor (who is also my advisor) stated that he/she would write both the Common App College Report and the Instructor Evaluation. Would this be unusual and perhaps damaging to my transer chances? Would it be a better idea to have a different professor write the Instructor Evaluation, or for my Dean to write the College Report instead?

Also, do I only need one professor recommendation or two?

That seems fine. At my school, professors just do the Instructor Evaluation. The college report is given to admissions/dean.

Thanks. How many Instructor Evaluations/Professor Recommendations did you submit?

I supposed to have 2 but I only have 1 that I think is done.

The number of LORs (IEs) you need to send depends on the school, go to the college websites and read their instructions.

As long as your instructor/advisor has access to your academic record and is able to answer the questions on the CR form, that’s fine.

entomom,

Thank you for the reminder. Yes it turns out that some of the schools require two recommendations.

Regarding the original point, one of the schools admissions counselor that I contacted stated that they would much rather prefer that the Instructor Evaluation and the Dean’s Report not be written by the same faculty member. I raised this issue to my advisor, who suggested that he could write my recommendation and a College Official administrative assistant could complete the College Report. My only concern is that I have not had any significant contact with this official and he/she probably wouldn’t be able to answer some of the questions on the College Report i.e. EC accomplishment rating, personal quality rating, “describe this student”, etc. Will this put me at a disadvantage?

IMO very little, if any, weight is given to the evaluation part of the CR. There’s just too much variation in who fills it out and how much they know the student (from not at all to very well). The most important part of the CR is that it says you are in good standing with your current college.
