College students: Did your senioritis go away?

I'm a senior in high school, I was accepted to my favorite college last winter under early decision. My future has been set for months now. I have 2 more months of high school, and although I'm taking extremely difficult courses (3 APs, college physics, college math) i have become increasingly lazy and i find myself just completely unable to start working or studying. I have been skipping class even. i already lost my 4.0. Its so unlike me. Last year I was all paranoid about grades, and getting homework done on time and getting an A. This year, I actually just decided not to do a paper knowing I would end up getting a C for the quarter. Yeah, it's bad. I just want to get the hell out of here and go to the college I've decided i wanted to go to since spring of last year. i'm not worried about them kicking me out -- im smart enough that i can get As/Bs without really doing anything.

But, I'm starting to get worried. what if my lack of work habits continue into college, where I know the work will be significantly more challenging and in greater volume that it is now? i'm starting to think maybe i've lost my will to learn that i've had all my life. maybe i'll end up working in a convenience store for the rest of my life or something. maybe i'll flunk out of college.

is this something everyone goes through? does it go away once you get to college? how do you regain time management and study habits and all that? i've always been a procrastinator but this is just out of hand.

Why'd you post this twice?

Yes, it does go away. You have all summer to relax and mature and once you get to college, very little of the high school mentality carries over. Plus, with the exciting new classes/professors/surroundings, I felt very inspired to get back to work.

You're obviously very accomplished as a student. Take it easy these last few months and enjoy prom/graduation/beach week/whatever. Everything will fall into place for college.

It definitely went away for me. I got a 2.75 unweighted in my last semester in high school. I was enthusiastic about college, however, and got a 4.0 my first quarter.

It went away and never returned.

Same.

I had extreme senioritis in my Senior year. As many people have said, it goes away with the new thrill of college. I have a 3.978 now :)

It went away...College was so different that I ended up working way harder, but it was spread across a number of different things - my fraternity, a bunch of different clubs, several volunteer projects, partying...

Until I got accepted to medical school...then all motivation went out the window and I spent 4 or 5 nights a week at the bars. That senioritis was way worse, but it was awesome because all my friends who had gotten into med school, or law school, or had jobs lined up were doing the same thing.

I think once you are accepted into your grad school you have the right to do that :P

wow, thanks everyone. i feel relieved.

It goes away... but then it comes back when you're closing in on being a senior in college too. I've already got it, and I'm still 3 weeks away from the end of my junior yr of college. I'm definitely NOT writing a paper or reading right now like I should be, since I am obviously on CC instead.

forums are a lot more distracting than most might think

I'm ignoring my medical anthropology reading response paper and close reading analysis of The Wasteland for Lit 2. They don't exist right now... la la la.... They will, however, exist at 6:30 in the morning when I get up to work on them, like I did this morning for the paper I had due today (which ended up not even being really due today, it was just peer-reviewed in class and final due on friday... total bollocks. I definitely wouldn't have worked as hard on it had I known that, though, so I guess it's good I didn't know).

This is totally unrelated and offtopic, but in my English & American Lit class we just finished The Wasteland.

It makes absolutely no sense.

Yes...it went away BUT it comes back FAR worse your senior year of college! ...Especially your last month or so! For me, I'm normally a good student, learn the material, etc.... the other day, I stared for 2 1/2 hrs straight at my neuro book and got THREE pages read! So yes, it goes away but not without coming back later!

Mine went a way at first, partly because I didn't do too well in HS and wanted to start off strong. I was going to class everyday and what not, until about the 5th week of the quarter when I just started getting lazy. From there, it didn't necessarily go down hill, but I stopped going to the gym, started skipping classes (the unimportant ones at least) and put on some weight (that I'm still burning off). My grades were actually pretty decent, but I realized that if I would have gone to class and put more effort in, they could have been a lot better.

Second quarter however, I got my **** back together, and improved my grades. This quarter is a bit different, I am going to be really busy, so we'll see what happens.

read it in my eng. lit class too :)...except im in high school and its AP lit/comp

i had extremeeee senioritis. i acutally think i had senioritis for the majority of HS except for junior and first marking period sr year. first semester this year i acutally OVER-studied and did amazing. this semester expecially recently ive started slacking a little bit by skipping some lectures. but i still make sure i get my work done and do a good job. i actually think i should be working as hard as i did in the beginning because my classes this semester are overall much harder and more demanding. really i think its just that ive learned how to handle college.

i KNOW i have to work my ass off these last 3 weeks so i can keep up my GPA and enjoy summer. its getting reallyyyy hard when its nice out and summer is so close in sight. procrastination is becoming an issue, i dont know how long its been since ive read my history textbook..

It went away for about 6 months and then it came back again. But my GPA stayed about the same because even though I chose to be lazy, I'm still smart about it. I just picked easier teachers and classes instead of "looking for trouble".
