College suggestions please for a transfer student

Daughter did her freshman year at Emerson College. Left for several reasons. Final GPA around 2.9. Sustained head injury in a car accident a couple weeks prior to starting at Emerson which attributed to study difficulties that have since improved greatly. Spring semester at Emerson she earned a 3.3. Attending community college locally in VA this semester. Would like to transfer back to a 4-year school spring 2013. She's unsure of a major. Was majoring in Writing/Literature/Publishing at Emerson. Considering English and Marketing currently. She's looking for suggestions for 4-year schools, public or private, that are traditional, i.e. football program, school spirit, sororities/fraternities, etc.. Area: east coast possibly as far west as Kentucky (we're in VA). Ranking of the school is not really important. She's looking for somewhere she can be happy and enjoy the remainder of her undergraduate college experience. She's black, but isn't particular about the racial diversity of the school (after all, she went to Emerson with a 3% black population and has some fabulous friends there that she misses greatly and is planning to visit in a couple months). Financial aid is a BIG concern as is the transfer acceptance rate of the school. Prefer to live on-campus for a year to develop friendships with students, or at the very least 1 semester. On her list initially were: Christopher Newport Univ, JMU, Elon, and UK. She is unable to apply to CNU or JMU until fall 2013 because she has not completed her math credits yet. Math credits are a requirement for transfers (she was exempt from taking math at Emerson, hence the lack of math credits). She was quite disappointed to learn she wasn't eligible to apply to these 2 schools for spring, but also prefers not to wait an entire academic year to transfer back to a 4-year school. After being in Boston, she has an interest in Northeastern since it seems more traditional than Emerson, as well as schools in the south east. Not sure of her interest in other northeastern schools or those north of Maryland, but suggestions are certainly welcome and encouraged for any schools up and down the east coast and as far west as KY. Thanks!!

Try Temple? They’ve been growing a football program.

Just curious, why is your daughter leaving Emerson? Is it just the lack of sports, campus, and traditional college stuff or something else as well? I was wondering since I am applying there as a transfer.

There are some great schools in the east coast that can offer a traditional college experience and even football.

Penn State,
Penn
Boston College
Purdue (not really East Coast but still)
Syracuse
BU (personally love this school but not really traditional)
Rutgers

There’s probably a lot of state schools as well.

It primarily was the lack of traditional campus. I’m sure there were other things as well, but that’s the biggie. Good luck on your transfer!

Thanks for the suggestions. Any suggestions for schools south of VA? Again, not so interested in the prestige of the school.
