I am a freshman at St. John's University. I plan on transfering to NYU CAS for Fall 2009 if accepted. Whats the best piece of advice anyone can give me? I called the admissions office and they say that they wont look at my SAT scores. My GPA for the year will LIKELY amount to a 3.6. I will have 2 GREAT recommendations from college professors. I may also consider applying to UCLA, UC Berkeley and UPenn for music, and possible Yale for music.

I plan on majoring in Music and will send samples of my (outstanding) work. Also, I am Black and Cherokee Indian, 1st generation. Any advice anyone, on any of these schools?

what was your hs gpa? this will be the biggest factor for admissions if your applying so early

only apply to those colleges if you could have/did get into them for freshman year....showing them one semester of grades is not going to mean much

and a 3.6 is not going to be at all competitive for nyu coming from st johns, let alone the UC's and the ivies...you need to be a bit more realistic, i believe

My HS gpa ia a 2.5 and I may have a 3.8 for the year, Im saying 3.6 to be safe, what it would be for sure. I also have wonderful college rec's and very well though out essays and supporting credentials. Just my HS record is not good.

you are way out of your league, at this point, i think

what are your ec;s?

hs gpa is by far the biggest factor in your admission...one semester worth of decent, but not great grades from st johns is not going to make you at all a competitive applicant for those schools you listed or begin to compensate for your hs performance...sat's are also a factor if your applying this early...you need to temper your expectations a lot and be a good deal more realistic if you wish to transfer at this point

if you are serious about getting into the schools you mentioned above (if the transfer process for yale and u penn music major is at all like it is for regular transfers, forget about those two), put in two years worth of 3.8-4.0 work and you might have a shot at some of those schools pending a bunch of other factors

hmm...I don't know what to tell you
except you should give it a shot? what's the worst that can happen? You don't get accepted, but you'll live.

And I think since you're applying to music it might be different...I just think they'd evaluate you on your music, and also on your grades obs, but yeah, I that's my opinoin
