Do most colleges recalculate gpa disregarding the +/- system used in some schools? My school uses that system, and my Gpa is like a 3.8 with that. However, without the +/- system, my gpa is a 4.0. Help

First, keep in mind that every high school will attach what is called a School Profile to your transcript that will tell the colleges you apply to how GPAs at your school are computed. Your GPA will be looked at in that context.

However, many schools do then recompute the GPA for all applicants for comparison sake. Some will recalculate weighted GPAs into unweighted GPAs, others will only include grades in core academic areas. Some just go with whatever GPA is on the transcript. It really depends on the individual college.

It is a good idea to ask each college that may make your list directly whether they recalculate, just look at grades in core subjects, etc. Most colleges are very happy to answer that question for you. But, remember, they will also look at that School Profile for help translating what your transcript GPA means, so don't worry too much if your school does things a little differently than other high schools.
