Looking for some good colleges in Florida that I can get into. Nothing about school matters other than being in Florida and me having a shot of getting into it. I have been looking into Florida State University but people are telling me its a reach. So looking for other schools.

Thanks

FSU is sort of a reach for u. if u were a Florida resident then you would be more than fine. However being an Out of Stater def hurts your chances.Good thing is their acceptance rate is not that low so that raises your chances of getting in and you say u should be scoring a 28 on ACT. If that is so, I believe u have a great shot at getting in. Assuming u do reach that score, id say FSU is a high match/ low reach.

Other Schools u could look into:

USF: located in Tampa Florida. A notch below FSU but still a solid reputation. Match

UCF: In Orlando. about the same as USF. USF is more science oriented while UCF has better programs in Business. Match

FIU: in Miaimi. Also about the same as UCF and USF though USF and UCF are generally looked upon as better schools. FIU has just about every school: Medical, Law, Business etc… Safety

Even though these two are big reaches, I always reccommend applying to them because u never really know. U might try, UFlorida and UMiami. UFlorida is going to be much tougher as its public but UMiami on the otherhand is private (favors Out of state students) and though admissions is tough (38% acc rate) they do use a much more comprehensive admissions review than at UF and FSU. Here they give lots of emphasis into reccommendation letters (which u have really good ones) and essays.

At FSU, the middle 50% of the Fall 2008 accepted freshman class is: 3.7-4.2 GPA; 1190-1330 SAT (Critical Reading plus Math); 26-29 ACT. This gives you a general idea of the stats you need to gain acceptance.

Since you’re an out-of-state applicant, FSU would be a reach. Even as in-state student it would be a low reach. As gocanes suggested, try looking into UCF, USF, FAU, and FIU. You should still apply to FSU and hope for the best.

BTW, the acceptance rate at FSU is 48%. Not a huge difference from UM’s 38%.

My brother will be a freshman at Florida Gulf Coast Univ in the fall. It is the newest florida state school and has incredible facilities and dorms, located in Fort Myers. Check it out!
