My SAT scores are:
Math: 570
Critical Reading: 630
Writing: 650
I have few ECs, but I played soccer and tennis throughout high school, and have a lot of volunteering and community service hours.

My grades are a few A's, mostly B's, and some C's in the AP classes

What are my chances of getting into:
TCNJ
NJIT
Rutgers-New Brunswick campus

I would like to pursue an engineering major.

I don't think that you will get into TCNJ. Apply anyway, but it is a big reach. I think you have a good chance at the other two schools. You should also apply to a few more schools that are safeties for admission and affordable.

Oh, I didn't know that TCNJ was hard to get into. I'm going to retake the SATs next year anyway to improve my math score. Also, I will take it easy on the AP classes in order to get my gpa up. So is it my grades, SATs or just overall package that's the problem?

If its around there, it is definitely a little low for TCNJ. The thing about GPA is that there isn't that much you can do to get it higher at this point. This means you have concentrate on making those SAT scores as high as possible

The problem with Rutgers is that its really big and I would much rather go to TCNJ..hmm. You think the difficulty of my curriculum plays an important part? Since the only class really bringing me down is AP chem.

Beruga, TCNJ is just plain tough to get into, and I agree with you about Rutgers. I don't find the other choices in NJ that great. You might investigate Ramapo, Montclair, and Richard Stockton. I don't find any of them as appealing as TCNJ.

if your GPA is good enough, I think you have a good chance of getting into TCNJ. I had a much lower SAT score than yours and I still got in and am going there next year. good luck!

There are problems getting housing at Newark, and I have no idea about Camden, but I wouldn't choose to go to school in the most dangerous city in America.

Yeh seriously I would like to avoid Newark at all costs. I guess that just leaves me with TCNJ and Rutgers New Brunswick..hmm. I'll need a safety choice though, so I'll think about that.

Rowan is investing in the engineering program since the large donation.

If you can prep and get your Math SAT score up that would help gain admission to any engineering program, since they put emphasis on Math.

Have you talked to your guidance dept because your goal of TCNJ, is reachy right now, but doable by improving on the Fall SAT.

TCNJ has excellent data on their web site regarding the admitted/ enrolled SAT scores, and you should check this out. As I recall the admitted SAT scores were higher for undecided than Engineering which is surprising. You might have to snoop around the site, but they provide some of best data I have seen.

I know two high 1200's who were rejected / waitlisted at TCNJ this year.

Stockton ( 5 minutes from my house) doesn't offer engineering, does it?

What about Univ of Del as an option, too?
Their average SAT score admit was 1250 last year.
Good luck to you! You can do this.....

Have you considered Drexel? Great engineering program and your SAT is on their higher end. Just across the river from NJ and not too expensive for a private school...

Now I've shifted my choices to TCNJ, Rowan and Drexel. I'll do a little research on them now, particularly the TCNJ site. Thanks for all the suggestions so far.
