Colleges not appearing iDoc?!

A few of the collegs I applies to, that say they use iDoc, aren’t appearing on my iDOC page when I log in?

Should I e-mail about this issue? Should I just keep waiting…

I’m worried this is a bad sign on behalf the colleges…

@TheAnnabelle, I am a parent and I have wondered the same thing - and several of my friends have been discussing this issue. We are wondering whether a school’s failure to request IDOC documents is an indication that a rejection is coming.

The IDOC website shows that schools do pay a per-student fee to have documents processed, and there is a procedure by which they can request that some students’ documents do not get processed (so that they do not incur a charge):

See: https://finaidonline.collegeboard.com/fin/PI_StaticPagesControlServlet/PI_StaticPagesControlServlet.srv?name=pi_aboutidoc

And see (regarding ability of the college to signal to IDOC that a student falls in the “no send” category):https://finaidonline.collegeboard.com/fin/PI_StaticPagesControlServlet/PI_StaticPagesControlServlet.srv?name=pi_idocfaqs

The only other explanation we can come up with for “missing” schools is that some IDOC schools just haven’t gotten around to asking for documentation yet (although it’s almost March now), OR maybe some IDOC schools are satisfied with CSS and FAFSA alone and don’t need backup documents from a particular student.

Or, unfortunately, perhaps the college has submitted a “no send” to IDOC to save the fees on those students whom they have already determined will be rejected.

I really don’t know the answer, but I think there is certainly a potential hint if a school is not listed on the IDOC portal…IF the school states that it requires IDOC, and IF the CSS profile was submitted long ago by the student.

@prospect1 I’m not sure your theory holds much water. $5.10 to a private school is nothing. Especially if you consider the application fee (admittedly, a decent chunk of students get fee waivers).

@snappletop - Oh, I agree - I really don’t have a supportable theory on this. It’s just a possible explanation as to why some IDOC schools seem to not be asking for documentation for some students. Of course, with some schools getting tens of thousands of applications, that $5.10 per could add up and give some incentive for a college to separate the wheat from the chaff as early as possible to save some money where they can. And then again, the very fact that IDOC gives the schools the option to “no send” selected students must mean that its an option that must have been requested or exercised by some schools. But as I said…I really don’t know and am purely speculating here!
