Colleges that don't look at freshman yr?

Hey all, I really messed up my GPA with my freshman year so does anyone know of any colleges that have the same policy as the University of California Or University of Michigan system where they only evaluate you by your 10th and 11th grade GPA? Also, do most colleges give you a little bit of a break when considering your freshman GPA? I have shown improvement each year.

Thanks,

Most colleges do give you a break. Just when you write your essays or in your interview or w/e spin it the right way. You didn't do badly freshman year, you just matured over the 4 years :)

The University of Michigan calculates its own gpa's and they totally omit freshman year. it's 4.0 for an A/A-/A+, 3.0 for B/B-/B+, etc

oops i just read the title and posted, i didnt see that you posted about michigan in the original post

Stanford and Princeton do not use freshman year while recalculating GPA.

That annoys me. I've had good grades all three years so far.

It shouldn't, really.

If you've done well through three years, you obviously have done well through two years. Also, you've hopefully learned quite a bit even during freshman year.

Besides, what breaks other people get shouldn't concern you--if they had a genuine reason to do poorly freshman year, you should be happy that they didn't sink themselves with a small trip-up.

And if the moralistic argument doesn't work for you, do note that these universities--even UC Berkeley, at least, which I know for a fact does this--still look at freshman grades. Note what I said--look.

It may not be in the GPA calculation, but from my understanding, there are very few to no colleges that truly have admissions committees that just don't see freshman grades at all.

If you have an unexplicable holiday your freshman year, you'll be held accountable for it. If you had a reason for it, make sure to say what it was.

As long as you've had a upward inclination, you should be perfecto...don't worry too much. Just focus on the grades you have now

I heard Stanford's no longer re-calculating GPA's. They will now take frosh year into consideration. This is what someone else said on CC the other day.

^interesting.

as college admission continues to get more and more competitive, i wonder if the ivies will begin to consider 8th grade grades?

Don't forget, while some private schools may ignore frosh gpa, they do count class rank. Thus, frosh gpa is important.

yeah, i got really screwed in my rank because of freshman grades (namely PE. yes it is stupid but my class rank went down a few % because of it)

UChicago, also, for all you uber nerds.

im in the same boat
