I’ve taken ALOT of honors courses since my school apparently prefers honors than AP/IB, it will be a waste for it not to be weighted. Also my school doesn’t weight honors courses either :(.
I live in Indiana so UC’s won’t weight my honors courses unfortunately.
Anyone have a list of colleges that will weight honors courses from a high school in Indiana?
Almost all universities weight Honors courses more - and Top 50 universities/LACs pretty much expect Honors, so that if you don’t have about 5 classes each year classified as either HOnors or AP (or IB, Dual enrollment, AICE, Accelerated…) it’s actually weighted against you to have too many CP/regular classes.
The UCs are an exception and it’s because they get tens of thousands of applications for OOS, they have to distinguish between them (so, APs would be “their” norm for OOS applicants).
Anyway, why would you apply to UCs from Indiana? They cost 55K (and no financial aid) and if you have the GPA, test scores, course rigor, and ECs for a UC, you could apply to Occidental, Pitzer, another Claremont, USC, Chapman, etc… and there have a chance at financial aid…
The UC’s do weight some non AP classes, at least from our school. Artificial Intelligence (pre AP Comp Sci), Chem, Physics, Pre-calc are all weighted if honors designated according to the UC gpa calculator.
Pretty much all of them do. The UCs publish a formula they use in recomputing GPA, but even for schools that don’t spell out a formula the adcoms are going to take rigor of schedule into account when making admission decisions and they say that in discussing how they evaluate applicants.
