Make that Sagehens.

The Leland Stanford Junior University

Why would anyone go to a Junior University?

The thread has gone on so long it has started to recycle.

worst: Brown

I've always liked the sound of Wellesley...roles off the tongue. And I like the needless e's. As for worst, I agree with those who've already mentioned Ball State.

I always thought that the name Trojans was unfortunate because they are most famous for losing. Why not name a team something like the "Golden Horde?"

This isn't a college, but how about Dummer Academy? It's a private school in Massachussetts...
[/quote]
That's actually Governor Dummer Academy. And it's a pretty good prep school as well.

Haha, Governor Dummer's changing its name soon, which is unfortunate.

what is it changing too?

and I still don't understand why Tufts is a bad name...

and don't be dissing STANFORD! It still kick's every college/university in the nation's butt except for 5.
Damn straight, that's what the junior university does. :)

Hey, it's the #1 Junior University!

enough stanford jabs! i'm sure everyone is aware that stanford is not a "junior university", but that the "junior" part was part of leland stanford's name!

Ball State - hands down

Governor Dummer Academy in Mass is changing it's name to The Governor's Academy.

I've always gotten some funny responses from people when I tell them I want to go to Rice University. U. of Alabama people immediately think of Brice, which is the mental institution on the Tuscaloosa campus. Another time I was talking to one of the other horns at orchestra about Rice and another horn turns around and asks what kind of rice we were talking about, thinking we were talking about the food. Besides, it just sounds weird to say "I like Rice." But hey, "what's in a name..." : )

Best: Princeton, Vanderbilt, Columbia
Worst: Brown, Yale

"Where are you going next year?"
"Yale."
Take a deep breath "WHERE ARE YOU GOING NEXT YEAR?!"

I think that University of Pennsylvania is bad because everyone thinks it is Penn St., a far less prestigious, but good nonetheless, university.

i love yale, but i must admit, it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

hairypotty:

Clever. Took me a moment to understand what you meant...

hehe... It took me a second too. You'd have to have a really deep southern accent to hear "yale" as "yell"... It sounds like something some of the kids in some of the country schools south of here would say. (Not my part of Alabama. We aren't that southern.) haha
