Colleges with best/worst names

And Lambath College- I think that's it- If you have ever seen the musical "Me and My Girl" you would find this amusing.

Sorry for the triple post!!!!

But does anyone remember the "Boy Meets World" eposide where Eric wodners about "Yah- Lee"? (Yale)
LOL

Skidmore -- sounds like skid marks. The underpants kind.

worst: *OCCIDENTAL University *

What, did you accidently get into occidental?

I always think of Oxy Oxygen...

worst - Brigham Young (never liked the guy, had like more than 50 wives and 50 children), University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign (way too long)

best - mit (short and sweet)

I'm a fan of Amherst, Wellesley, and Dartmouth.

Not a fan of Harvey Mudd or Swarthmore.

Someone mentioned that Claremont McKenna was pretty bad; that's why I call it C-Mac.

Some worst names:

Truman State (good school but reminds me of "The Truman Show")

California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo (how do they get this on their stationery?)

Bentley College (another good school but reminds me of a character on "The Jefersons")

Worst- Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science

1st- Pittsburgh is a bad name to begin with. I mean Pitts, not cool!
2nd- They abbreviate it PIMS which is a really bad acronym
3rd- Mortuary is not so happy word.

^^^This is a real school! I went to a college fair where they were present!

Best name- Oxford..... by far! Sound so historic and well, prestigious! Simple yet elegant... ah if only I could stand a shot at getting in...

California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo (how do they get this on their stationery?)

They just put 'CalPoly' on their stationary, haha.

Just wondering...
Does Occidental have orientation for freshman?

I love NYU and am attending next year. However, people in Wisconsin oftentimes think that I'm going to a NY public school, rather than a prestigious, top 35 private university. I don't care, but if I said I was going to a similarily ranked school with a "name", people would have some idea.

georgetown college and cornell college? (as opposed to universities)
"uva" is spanish for grape, and looks kind of like Uvula
pepperdine also makes me think of a refreshing mint
Salisbury State University: steaks
and cant sleep on: slippery rock university of penn

Kalamazoo...
How can you take someone seriously if they say "I attend Kalamazoo"
Come on

Anybody mentioned Wartburg?

Worst - University of Missouri - Rolla

haha, well, this is just a local one because there's a town near mine that has less than 2000 people, and it has the same name.
So, if I was to tell my friends I was going to go to college in Rolla they'd think I'd gone nuts :)

Worst - Miami of Ohio. If you have to explain where you're from... just pick another name! Also Harvey Mudd; Bob Jones; Hobart & William Smith (what?? who?? pick one already!)

I read once that people who go to Boston University spend much of their lives explaining to anyone outside of New England that they did NOT go to Boston College.

My son almost enrolled at Union College in NY. Great school. But for some reason it bothered me that there are two other Union colleges (NE and KY). That's not why he picked another school, though.

I think New York University and Long Island University are two good names. The former gives the university a world-class city name, while the latter gives the feeling of a relaxed, serene atmosphere under the sun.

Lafalum,

There is no school, "Miami of Ohio"

There is Miami University in Oxford, Ohio founded 1809.

There is University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida founded 1925.

Worst - University of Missouri - Rolla

This one is soon to be obsolete, because the school is officially changing its name to "Missouri University of Science & Technology" as of January 1, 2008. Or "Missouri S&T" for short.

Sorry, standrews, my bad! Maybe its just the sportscasters who refer to it as Miami of Ohio, to distinguish it from Univ of Miami.
