Geographically Challenged:
Northwestern U. In Chicago, of course
Northwestern College (IA), Northwestern College (MN). A little closer, but only a little.
Miami University. In Oxford, Ohio
Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Since when did state universities go extraterritorial?
University of the Pacific. In Sacramento, in the Central Valley a good 90 miles from the ocean, but the name conjures up nice images.

Another to add to the geographically challenged list:
California University of Pennsylvania
Cal</a> U: Welcome to California University of Pennsylvania's Web Site
<em>Looks like a nice school</em></p>

<p>GOOD Names:
- Haverford
- Stanford
- Tulane
- Madison
- Macalester
- James Madison</p>

<p>BAD Names:
- Bob Jones
- Ball State
- Colgate
- Penn
- Purdue
- Drake</p>

<p>Worst: DUKE. Seriously, the name reminds me of those baked bean commercials where the dog tries to sell the recipe or whatever. Also, Swarthmore, Skidmore, Bryn Mawr. All awful names.</p>

<p>Best: Macalester, it reminds me of a tropical parrot (a macaw, maybe?).</p>

<p>johns hopkins is NOT a bad name... lol its different. duke.. princeton? whats the originality in that</p>

<p>Personally, Johns Hopkins is a fine name to use in a university. For one, its distinct, not generic, and its a good name to use for a university.</p>

<p>The only downside I see if the extra 'S' on Johns... but that is only a minor imperfection.</p>

<p>My thoughts are that it is an okay, pretty good name. Though there are others that are better.</p>

<p>Best: Columbia. it sounds like an institution for the gifted
Worst: no idea</p>

<p>Worst: Fashion Institute of Technology, also known as FIT.</p>

<p>Best:
- King's College
- Old Dominion University
- Judson College</p>

<p>Worst:
- Villa Julie recently renamed themselves Stevenson College. Stevenson is the small town outside of Baltimore that houses the smaller of their two campuses
- Southwestern Oklahoma State. There's no southwestern part of Oklahoma. Also SWOSU?</p>

<p>Like:
Vanderbilt (the name alone sounds prestigious)
Villanova (it sounds pretty and prestigious at the same time)
University of Notre Dame (reminds me of paris)
Bryn Mawr
Wellesley
Gonzaga (so i'm biased?)
Salve Regina (so i'm catholic?)
Claremont McKenna</p>

<p>Worst:
Slippery Rock
Tufts
Tuskegee (i always think of those black men they experimented syphillis)
Pace
Bard (i'm bored....)
Colgate (.....)
Argosy (i don't know if other cities have them, but we have something called Argosy Cruises)
DePauw (sounds like a little kid trying to say Paul)
Oglethorp (nough said)
Muhlenberg
Morehouse
Monmouth
Wabash
Wooster
College of the Ozarks (sounds like sci-fi followers, like trekies)
Muskingum
University of the Ozarks (okay, must there be more than one ozark?!)</p>

<p>IN RESPONSE TO UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND:
Most of the people who hate it probably have no idea how to pronounce it.
It's not PUG-IT, or PUJ-IT, it's PYOO-JET.</p>

<p>Wartburg
Skidmore</p>

<p>"Worst: - Southwestern Oklahoma State. There's no southwestern part of Oklahoma."</p>

<p>LOL!!! The best answer of all! (unless, of course, SWern Oklahoma State is in Amarillo, TX)</p>

<p>^Worst: Northwestern University...it's not in the northwestern part of the US anymore! lol...</p>

<p>Worst: marlboro</p>

<p>The College of New Jersey - creative, huh?
Oglethorpe University - seriously, Oglethorpe?
Centre College - the "centre" of what?
College of the Atlantic - another creative one
Agnes Scott College - Agnes, lol</p>

<p>Worst: Indiana University Of Pennsylvania and California University Of Pennsylvania</p>

<p>Best:
Vanderbilt (sounds powerful...I guess?)
Loyola Marymount (It's a mouthful but I think it's catchy)</p>

<p>Worst:
Northwestern/Southeastern/Southwestern/etc Oklahoma State University (all too long and similar and generic)
Blackburn College (it's unique and simple, ok, but I don't like it as a college name!)
Grantham University (can you grant me chicken too?)</p>
