Columbia App. questions....

On the application it says "List and describe your activities, including jobs, during the past two summers:
Last summer:
Two summers ago:

I am applying this year. What exactly does the "last" summer mean? Does it mean the 04 summer or the 05 summer? Also with the "two" summers ago.. Does it mean the 03 summer or the 04 summer?

considering the app's due nov the ealiest I think they want to know about the 2 most recent summers which is this one and last one =p

and since this is an app question too, anyone else find themselves running outa space to write the title of their ECs?the thing onli allows 15-20 characters or something.

also on the financial aid app, there's a place where they asked your to put down "previous employer or school attended" or something like it and onli gives you like 6 character spaces...

PS this is the online app

k thanks just wanted to make sure

Yeah the online app is a total nightmare. I can't fit anything in those dumb spaces. Like for the Division Attended section on part one of the app for siblings who have attended columbia, I had to put Mailman School of Public Health, but I could only fit Mailman School of. I had to make a weird shorthand thing.

Also for the newspapers/magazines/books read.. Should I put the ones I read most recently or the ones I enjoyed the most? What is the average number of newspapers/magazines/books read by Columbia students? If anyone knows . ... Just wondering.....

they asked for enjoyed most, I only listed 2.

IvyLeague-- your best bed is to answer that stuff honestly in a way that tells Columbia something about you. Columbia is trying to see what type of person you are and how you are unique. Many people try to be pretentious and list the Economist, the New Yorker, etc. You're probably better off listing Stuff and Maxim than the former.

What if you actually read the Economist and the New Yorker? Will they assume that your trying to pretentious when you really are not?

i put down the New Yorker and i still got into Columbia ...... just put down the magazines that you like and enjoy reading

I think the only mistake you can make on these questions is not to put down anything. They want people who read. Beyond that, it's just an opportunity to give them some further sense of who you are and what's important to you.
