freakishly intense schedule.
mediocre SAT scores.

out of curiosity, what’d you score on your AP tests?

(you’ll probably get into Emory and Chicago, maybe Columbia, less so for MIT)

@ tony1337:

I’m not sure how many contestants there were, but i placed second on two back-to back years. my first paper was titled “tetra-amino macrocyclic ligand activators affect on pollution” and the second was “Big Bounce over takes the Big Bang”

I basically just took new emerging fields or ideas and just put the process in layman’s terms. I placed first at the regional level, and then at international.

@lurid
i know, my SAT scores have room for improvement, and i retook this past weekend and i expect them to go up, especially math and writing.

AP scores-

AP bio-3
Ap human geo-5
AP Art history-4
AP chem- 4
AP world history-5
This year:
i predict that i’ll get either 5 or 4s on all of my exams. i felt fairly confident on them all.( stat, eng lang, psych, physics b, us history)

bump 10char

i will bump this once more!

hmmm
well your EC’s look pretty weak for schools like MIT and HYP. Your 2nd place international thiny looks really strong, but your description of it seems very vague. Is there a website for it?

Your SAT scores, both I and II’s, are low for the higher tier schools.
740 in Math = rejection from MIT (hahahaha)
MIT is a science school dude, a 700 in Physics is gonna hurt.

Columbia: 16%
Chicago: 20%
MIT: 7%
Emory: 80%

hmm, thanks for the input

i’m the guy that placed in both 2008-2009 and 2007-2008

Oh, and I got a 600 on the Chem SAT and a 680 on the Math I. Yet… MIT '13! Don’t get too hung up on test scores.

gonzaemi: i’m kinda jealous, not gonna lie

also, i wish i had known about this technical writing thing, it seems right up my alley

the only reason i entered it was because everyone in my grade had to write onw in 10th grade. i i was just fortunate enough to place

Actually, I got a 670 on Math I. Haha

nice.
did you have stellar essays?

Yeah, most midwestern schools will place more emphasis on the ACT. Your ACT is very strong, though, so I think you’ll be okay.

thanks
i like the ACT better than the SAT, haha

this is the last bump, and then i’ll let the thread die.
haha

your ACT is definitely good for U of C but i agree with the first person, you’re definitely going to need to bring up your physics SAT II score, esp if you want to go into some kind of science major.
i think you’re looking good for U of C and Emory other than the SATII score, especially since you’re valedictorian
MIT is a reach & Columbia is a low reach.

sweet thanks, i’m not even sure if i’m applying to MIT, but columbia and u of C is a definite.

thanks

My school—freshmans do take AP Bio IF they took Biology in middle school.

Everyone single freshman I know who took AP bio had an A. They’re surrounded by upperclassmen, but guess what? Young kids pride in beating up older people, so they get more motivation and dedication. Besides, their course load is also a lot easier than juniors and seniors. It doesn’t surprise me that a freshman would get an A in AP Bio. I would actually be surprised if he gets a B!

Columbia: high reach
Chicago: reach
MIT: super-high reach
Emory: match

chance me back please : )

Personally, I think you have a pretty good shot at Emory&U Chicago. Your schedule is really really rigorous and you have a good solid GPA and ACT score. Personally, I’d say that you retake the SATs till you get 800 on the math and a 36 on the math portion of the ACT’s which would get you closer to schools like Columbia and especially MIT.

I think your extracurriculars are spectacular.
