Columbia Class of 2020 RD Thread

@hiddenfalls I was literally not expecting to go to anywhere good at all. I thought if I applied to a ridiculous # of schools, I’d have a decent chance of getting into 1 or 2.

columbia’s one of my first choice schools and i’m really worried cuz i didn’t receive a likely letter. i know the majority of accepted students dont receive one but so many people on this thread seem to have gotten one :frowning: i was accepted to WashU, Northwestern and Harvey Mudd but after being rejected from JHU i’m so nervous for ivy day! does any one know the approximate percentage of students who receive likely letters?

@leobabytiger ~30%

Hey guys! Early decision admit here.

@thetsaria WOAH, 21 Schools!?!?! That’s a crazy amount. You must’ve been drowning in essays.

And I can imagine you’ll be really anxious on ivy day since you applied to all eight. Good luck! :smiley:

i got rejected from Northwestern and waitlisted at UCLA and Columbia is my top choice
i have no hope i am becoming a toad

@thetsaria are you international? Did you apply for financial aid at columbia?

@nic2020 I’m like semi-international? Dual citizen US-Canada, Canadian high school but I think they consider me an American for FA purposes. Yes, I applied, but I haven’t gotten my early estimate yet

@AlphaX yeah, I spent my entire winter break applying, lmao. worth it, though. I got a ton of waivers which was great, otherwise the application fees would have come to >$1000!!!

Hey guys, does anyone know if “likely designation to be named a Rabi Scholar” means I WILL be named a Rabi scholar? Does it carry the same amount of certainty as a regular likely letter? Or does it mean that there are more rounds of selection and that I am merely under consideration?

Thanks!

@manwuththeplan it is the same as the likely. There is no further “competition” for the designation.

@manwiththeplan Congrats! :slight_smile:

im basically in the same position as you @leobabytiger . First, congrats on being accepted to your three colleges!! Columbia is my first choice university and I havent recieved a likely letter. I did, however, get accepted to jhu, cornell, emory and duke. But they dont compare to my love for columbia!!

Congrats on your acceptances @Exphlicit :slight_smile: If you don’t mind my asking, how did you hear back from Duke so early?

Are all likely letter out? Waitlisted at MIT and ND. Wondering about odds.

@nstasi I think all likely letters are out, but you never know, they’ve been pretty random…but it is March 20th already…

Likely letters all have to be out by March 15. Between March 15 and March 31 Ivy League schools are not allowed to advise students on their application status.

@Exphlicit congrats on your acceptances too! but how did u hear so early from cornell, duke and emory? did you receive likely letters from all three? i didnt think duke and emory sent out their decisions yet

Hey everyone, I’ve (kind of) applied to Columbia through its Dual BA program with Sciences Po. Has anyone else here applied to that program as well?

@leobabytiger I know Emory released early acceptances for those it wants to invite to Essence.

One of the 2 financial aid documents I haven’t submitted yet from my non-custodial parent was changed from “not received” to “waived” last week while the other remained “not received”. Is this a good sign or am I going off the deep end and reading way too much into it?
