Columbia Class of 2020 RD Thread

Do financial aid departments review apps concurrently with admissions?
I was wondering if both departments function at the same time. I know they are separate, but it seems to be inefficient at selective colleges if financial aid reviewed ALL their applications during these months when only like 10% of those people are getting accepted.

@Penn1248 Same thing happened to me. I just chose to not read too much into it.

Hey guys! Columbia RD decisions come out Ivy Day which is…March 31 or April1?
Also, Columbia emailed my school’s college counselor that a whopping 5 people got in this year, insane (my school usually has 1-2 people get into Ivys a year)! I only know 5 people who applied, 3 of them (including me) are in the top 10 of the graduating class. Really hoping I’m one of the 5… I have some cool essays and a strong GPA and extracurriculars

March 31 at 5pm.

I have become a repeating record.

@whitespace Sorry!! I’m new to the thread  my bad

@dreambig98 No worries! It’s just that you are far from the first person to ask - and on many other threads, the conversation is all about when we think decisions are going to be released, so it’s different when we know for sure.

@whitespace Yeah totally!

Fingers crossed for Columbia!! I didn’t really think I stood a chance until Columbia Admissions emailed my school counselor…I’m prayinggggggg, so nervous now

I’m on spring break this coming week, so even if I wanted to go stress out with my counselor there’s no way I could haha

@whitespace Omggg yeah! What are your safeties?

honestly tho,
Columbia my back up/ safety. got a likely from penn so… and not to mention accepted to harvard ea… jee im just winnin errday

@IAmGoingToPenn LMAOOO “jee im just winnin errday”

@IAmGoingToPenn Lol, you’re pretty set. Too bad you won’t be going to Columbia though.

@dreambig98 Northeastern and my state school

@AlphaX He might be trolling hahahaha

@dreambig98 what do you mean when you say Columbia emailed your counsellor?

@vossari The Office of Undergraduate Admissions emailed my school’s college counselor to congratulate the school on having 5 admits from our school, because it has never happened in our district before. I was super surprised as well, I couldn’t believe they’d email the counselor before admissions are released, but they did!

@dreambig98 that’s great! Best of luck to you

@vossari Thank you thank you! Good luck!
What do you wanna major in at Columbia?

@Penn1248 I got the same thing except I didn’t think it was a good sign. If the document has been waived, doesn’t that mean they don’t need it because they’ve already rejected me? Forgive me if I’ve misinterpreted this

@nic2020 I agree i have had this question for a while now.

So i want to hear the opinion of others on this subject: 2 of the ivy league financial aid offices have contacted me about the same thing; but others have not. do you think they just happened to randomly check my file and they wanted more docs, or is it a good sign? I dont want to speculate, just want to hear other people’s opinions.
