I ran it, but I’ve heard from many parents on CC that it’s not going to be accurate if your parents are divorced or own their own business. (Check and check)
How did you all find out your financial aid estimate?
@lindsaybaca Those who got Fin Aid estimates are likely letter recipients and ED admittees. They aren’t RD applicants like most users of this thread.
After getting flat out rejected from Vanderbilt, (which didn’t require the subject tests I did awful on), I think I can say it’s hopeless for the ivies (who will see my awful scores). I’m waiting for rejection
I got my early FA estimate yesterday and it wasn’t that far off from the net price calculator (maybe one or two thousand dollars off in total).
I’m a likely letter recipient how do I get my FA estimate ???
@allthingstesla Great! I was wondering if the calculator was accurate just for me. But it seems like it was pretty close to the actual thing for other people too
And I just want to put it out there. I did the price calculator for NYU a while back and they’d would’ve charged me four times my tuition at Columbia. What the hell? They are really horrible with financial aid, instead allowing faculty to use that money to go on expensive summer vacations. I even heard a story where a family sold their house to let their daughter go there. Now that is way too much. Just goes to show you how much Columbia actually cares about its students.
For all the other LL people asking how to get your early financial aid estimate, you should have received an email invitation, but I believe it is now too late to get it early. You’ll get your financial aid package with your official acceptance.
I got mine earlier this week and I’m heartbroken to say there’s pretty much no way I’ll be able to attend. Shockingly high EFC for my mother’s income. Does anyone here have any experience with how Columbia’s aid compares to the other Ivies? Columbia was by far my favorite, but now I’m very anxious for ivy day.
When did you get your likely letter? What make you get the likely letter, do you think? Thanks!
Hi everyone! I’m an international applicant and new to CC. I just wanted to ask if anyone else have their mailing address disappear in their portals? I’ve informed the university last week that my mailing address ( which is the same as my permanent) was incomplete (unlike my permanent) so that they could update it, but now only my permanent is there. Adding my interview performance, I feel so screwed. Maybe they don’t need my mailing address cause they ain’t gonna mail me anything. GGWP.
Thanks cries in the corner
Again, overthinking stuff. Probs doesn’t mean anything, they probably have things down correctly and it’s just not showing. If you’re an international applicant they’ll also probably let you know online rather than mailing stuff
@YOLObutFailed I’m international, too (Australian), but my addresses on the portal don’t have parts missing…and are still both there
However, I’ve noticed that maybe a few weeks after I made my portal account, my mailing address became an edited version of my permanent address - my abbreviated state (NSW) and formal abbreviation of “Close” (CL) in my permanent address had become the full “New South Wales” and a less formal abbreviation “Cl” in my mailing address even though I only listed my permanent address and chose “No alternate address” in my Common App. Don’t know if that means anything at all, but it does seem that the system (unlikely - why would a computer alter a perfectly formatted address?) and/or whoever processed the data made those alterations.
Does someone know if Columbia considers home mortgage payment as an expense incurred by the family? or do they not regard it as an expense? Thanks
@vossari Thanks for your input! But if you were to be an admitted international applicant, don’t they mail an admissions packet to you or something? I apologize for my incomplete comprehension of the US Admissions process. =|
@hiddenfalls Hi! that sort of happened to me too for other colleges that I applied to, except Columbia lol. Anyways, thanks for your info and good luck!
@YOLObutFailed true, but that would be later. Just don’t stress too much, but I get where you’re coming from
@YOLObutFailed I’m an international from the UK and both my addresses are there but I think I’m in a similar boat to @hiddenfalls. My mailing address is there in full but my permanent address became a much shorter edited version soon after I was able to access my portal. I doubt it means anything to have your mailing address removed though and I’m sure it was just a glitch. @YOLObutFailed have they replied to your email?
@Ayieee Thank you for the info. They did not reply my to my e-mail though. But I guess writing another e-mail to them regarding this won’t change the admissions decision, so maybe I’ll just let it be. Lol
can students who received LLs share their stats? especially international students pls…
I interviewed with all 4 of the Ivys I applied to (including Columbia), do you think that’s a good sign I’ll get into at least one of them?
@hoggy247 It is no sign at all and only indicative of an extant and willing alumni base in your area.
