Columbia Class of 2020 RD Thread

before i applied i got a letter from columbia about the school and such, i went to a uni fair and columbia was there but i never put my name or address down, does that mean anything at all?

@happy201998 No idea! I never got a letter from Columbia, but I hope I get an acceptance!

i hope you do @dreambig98 and i hope so too /: sat score 1810 super scored so not expecting much tbh and no interview, oh well, just a few more days sigh hate waiting

@dreambig98 which high school are you? Do anyone receive LL? Thx

what exactly is a LL? do RD applicants get it too or just ED applicants? @RoselandWeighing

@RoselandWeighing I go to a high school in California - and acceptances to Columbia are VERY rare (just one kid went there a couple years ago, otherwise, very dismal). So they emailed the counselor saying they were really impressed that 5 people got in. No one received a LL.

@happy201998 a LL is a likely letter :), thank you so much, I Hope you get in too. The SAT is just one component of your application, don’t worry!

@happy201998 No one from our school got an interview either, it’s not a big deal!

@dreambig98 I wish Columbia emailed my counselor, but I am the only person in my school to apply to any Ivy Leagues so that would be giving it away. Does anyone know how they look at a school that only one person in 50 years has gone to an Ivy?

@brant9297 Yeah, it was really cool that they did that, because frankly I thought my chances of getting into Columbia were realllyyyyyy low, just because it is Columbia. With regards to your school, I think that if you’re a qualified applicant, it can only help your case. The Ivy League loves reaching out to new schools and expanding, from what I have heard/experienced.

So does Columbia send an email to all counsellors to inform them how many people got in?

@dreambig98 That’s going to really suck for the 6th applicant!

No, unless they have changed the policy in the past couple of years.

Did anyone else not receive the opportunity for alumni interviews?

Does anyone know what percentage of deferred applicants gets admitted in the regular round? I was deferred :frowning:

I didn’t get an interview @birdballs
I’m an international student from a small cointry in West Africa so I don’t know if that’s the reason.
I kinda wanted an interview so that they could get to see how much I want to go there.

Columbia admissin officers clearly state that interviews have small effects on their applications. Don’t worry about it

@Alamom I totally agree! I almost wish our counselor didn’t tell the entire school about it, it has definitely brought my hopes up!

@frkngtnb8 - I’m interested in knowing that as well. did you provide additional material?

Just got rejected from USC. Really confused since I already got an LL to Columbia (and I really don’t think I’m Tufts syndrome material).

my daughter got an LL too and was accepted into Pomona, UCLA and a bunch of other NE colleges but was waitlisted by one of her safeties - we could not stop laughing. i think they knew she was never going to join. don’t overthink it - you would have never gone to USC anyways if you are getting into Columbia. college admission decisions are sometimes nonsensical.
