Columbia Class of 2020 RD Thread

My daughter also received the e-mail re financial aid. Does it go out to all applicants??

yes. Means nothing (IMO). Just a reminder since deadlines are tight to have the taxes ready.

did you guys mark that you wanted financial aid on common app?

So I took the SATII in January for the first time and got a 780 on chem and 760 on Math II (I know I messed up). Should I send my scores to Columbia as something supplementary to my deferred application? Or would it be weird to send in just the chemistry score?

@aspenz I wouldn’t say a 760 on MathII is having “messed up” . Atleast I hope nope, b/c I applied to the engineering school with a 760 on my Math2

I think a 760 on Math II is a very poor score. The test is fairly easy and has a generous curve.

I had an interview last weekend and just wanted to let you know if you’re going to have one to not be worried! I was really nervous, but it was fine. There were some questions that made me think on the spot (What is one of your weaknesses? What are you doing to improve on it?), but overall my interviewer was nice and wasn’t purposefully intimidating or anything. Definitely know exactly why you want to go to Columbia, and have some unique answers.

@gearsstudio that is not a “very poor score.” don’t know why you’d assume it’s “fairly easy” for everyone taking it.

Also, applicants are more than test scores. @aspenz if you get accepted or rejected, I guarantee you the last deciding factor will not be because of those subject test scores. You could maybe mention them in that follow up message to being deferred, but make sure you mention more important things that would make them really reevaluate you to your advantage.

Oh, also. My interview was scheduled for today after school. He never showed up! Woohoo!!!

joining the thread! deferred from ED hopefully RD will be better

Who would be joining the Financial Aid online chat next week?

760 is fine you guys need to chill

Back to the interview topic. Did any California applicants get interview?

@Ballerina016 I’m in California (L.A. area) and I haven’t gotten an interview yet. I’m sort of worried because Columbia is my dream

Same here @Spicykins . Probably not much alumni in LA.

@Ballerina016 @Spicykins I’m in the LA area and no interview either.

@Ballerina016 @Spicykins @frenchtoastlover I’m also in the LA area and haven’t heard about an interview. Perhaps the LA vs NYC argument lol.

Is anyone still getting interviews? My son has not heard anything yet

Ahhh, just read some previous posts, so it looks like not everyone has gotten an interview yet.

Cornell ED reject here so I’m not too optimistic here either but good luck everyone!

And @mysonsdad I haven’t either, to my knowledge we are in no way at a disadvantage if we don’t get one (from the columbia interview website). My cousin out in Oregon got one last week so apparently it’s still going on. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

@Mysonsdad my interview is Sunday. It was supposed to be on Friday but the guy didn’t show up. So they are still scheduling them.
