@Mysonsdad did your son check his spam folder? Make sure the interview invitation email did not get lost. Otherwise, the interviewer might take the no response as no interest in the school.
I had my Columbia Interview yesterday. He implied that he doesn’t find out whether or not applicants get accepted. I found that a bit surprising.
@gearsstudio - My interviewer told me that they eventually find out, but not until a month or two after we find out.
Alumni interviewers find out on the same day as the applicants.
I’m kind of jealous of people who get interviews. I know that they don’t have any bearing, but with a good interview, at least you have an alumni like “rooting for you”, however insignificant that may be…
That being said, no one in my area ever gets Columbia interviews so I guess I’m in the same boat as everyone else around me.
Has anyone else been contacted by a current student for a phone interview? I was contacted recently and am wondering what its significance is in comparison to an alumni interview.
Hey all, I’m applying for Philosophy, looking forward to freaking out for the next few weeks with you!!!
P.S. did anyone in RI get an interview? does this actually mean something or is it just a case?
Hey! I applied ED so it might be different but I did receive an interview. I also applied philosophy! Woohoo
^ that was for @TheLastofUs9 btw
Any updates on LA area interviews? there’s no way we don’t have any alum near us…
@AngelaW98 I find that hard to believe. I interview for another Ivy and alums don’t get notification for at least 3 days. The school does NOT want a “congrats” to come from an interviewer but rather from the school itself. I can’t imagine Columbia would risk that.
For readers wondering about interviews: the fact is that applicants way outnumber volunteer interviewers. At my local school, many kids apply to my alma mater. I interviewed one applicant and told him to tell his fellow students that this year, only about half were assigned to an interviewer in order to allay their fears/disappointments – that’s just how the numbers fell. And they were randomly assigned.
Plus the deadline for interview submissions (for my school and likely other Ivies) was 2/15. There’s a little wiggle room however with that deadline.
In general, if by this date you’ve not been contacted, I’d say the likelihood is extremely minimal that you will be contacted. It can happen but don’t count on it.
That’s why they matter the least in your overall evaluation.
@JungleJim4232 did you get in?
EDIT DOUBLE POST
How many of you guys had student interviews instead of an alumni?
Are interviews based on major? I live in NY and I have not been contacted for an interview. Should I be worried?
Out of all schools that offer interviews this is the only one my DC did not get interviewed at. I think at this point most of decisions been made anyway.
@schroscat From what I recall: Yes and No. I recall hearing that Columbia posts some broad info about students (HS, potential area of interest, possibly some ECs) up on a data base and volunteer alums can pick and choose – either based on proximity, HS or possible study. Columbia is unique in that manner among the Ivies I believe. For most others, it’s simply a random assignment with some nod made to proximity.
If I’m mistaken about this “clearinghouse” model for Columbia interview assignments, can someone correct me?
@ValarRejectis Right? lol I’m in the LA area and haven’t heard anything I find it hard to believe as well that there are no Columbia alums ( or volunteer interview alums) in the area haha
So basically, Columbia is the only ivy that hasn’t given me an interview. Oh well
