I am sure that you will end up in Harvard or Yale in RD.
Sorry to see this, but maybe you deserve a better school than Columbia.
My D got deferred. Columbia is requesting a LOCI and her 1st semester grades which is due in January.
Deep breaths. It is indeed crazy competitive in elite college admissions, and itâs getting more so every year. I assure you, being of Asian heritage is not disqualifying, and there are many other non- underrepresented groups who also donât help these colleges diversify their class. We have to accept that and apply to a spread of colleges that will yield some acceptances at places where you will be happy. And you WILL find such a place . Columbia is not the only great college. I wish you all the best the rest of the way!
Columbia definitely not great in high tech. Maybe only Wall Street.
Any school would be beyond lucky to have you. There is a school out there for you. Apply to as many
âŠit means, UNIVERSE has a âbetter planâ for you. Your hard-work and dedication is so impressive and it will not go unnoticed. Do not give up, apply to other good colleges (which you might have ignored previously). Wish you all the best !!
You will get into another amazing college, wish you all the best !!
I am so so sorry for you. You are clearly an incredibly hard worker and itâs so obvious that you have put in an incredible amount of work (all your life!!) for this school. Legit wondering when you sleep cause wow, you are seriously accomplished. Please donât let a small group of people in an admissions office minimize everything you have achieved. I know itâs hard to see it now (was also recently deferred, but the university wasnât nearly as competitive as Columbia), but itâs possible that this is just a blip that will push you in an amazing direction you would have never thought to go in. You are NOT a failure, please believe that. Sending a big ass virtual hug from California <3
P.S. this is my parentsâ account, but I read your story and had to respond. My mom doesnât give big ass hugs to strangers but apparently I do
Take it very seriously and do it. Even send more than one. Mine sent 3 LOCIs after the waitlist and she got off the waitlist.
@anaray - Thanks for the reply! Was it 3 LOCIâs every time she had a new update to share? And was her deferment to Columbia?
@dejected1 - with all of your accomplishments, you are going to get into a fantastic school!! I know itâs tough to see it now but I am sure you will end up at a very good competitive school that was meant for you. Sending you good vibes!
She had like 4 or 5 updates and she deliberately saved them for 3 different LOCIs and wrote one or two each time saving the rest for the next update. In fact since it is deferral you may have to write may be 4 or 5 as you have time till the end of March or whenever the Ivy day is. And one of our friendâs friend gave many different tips and I am almost sure that it helped very much. One thing I remember her telling us is that in every update you send, in the subject line write your name in BOLD so they remember your name. As they see many applicants, it is good to make sure that they remember you so that you come to their mind when they are looking for the kind of talent you have to complete the rounded class.
And yes. She wasnât deferred, but waitlisted after RD to Columbia. She is at Columbia now.
Anyone else get in early decision? Iâm totally excited
I actually can hardly believe I got in!
what were your stats?
Undoubtedly, at first it hurts. But youâve done your best. Now take a deep breadth and say the following - Serenity Prayer: âGod grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.â
The world awaits your greatness.
Sounds like quite a journey! Glad to hear she stuck it through and is now studying at an amazing college. Hopefully it will work out for my D too. Thank you again for all your great advice!
1 It will surely work! Donât worry! When you send the LOCI, send it to the regional as well as main admission officer with the name in Bold in the subject line. Good luck!
