Thank you for your Early Decision application to Columbia University. We are nearing the end of our application review and will soon notify Early Decision candidates of our decisions.

The Columbia community is committed to environmental responsibility; in keeping with this commitment, we will provide some admissions decisions only online, not via regular mail. You may request that a copy of your decision letter be mailed to you after you receive it online; further instructions will be available when you check your decision. We plan to post all decisions online on Thursday, December 11, 2014, after 5:00 p.m. (Eastern).

If you have previously created an account to track the status of your application or to submit the Columbia First-Year Application, please use the same credentials you created at that time. If you have not yet created an account or if you have any difficulty logging in, follow the instructions on our website. This step should be completed as soon as possible to avoid a delay in receiving your admissions decision.

If you have questions, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 212-854-2522 or ugrad-ask@columbia.edu.

After perusing the board on here for some time, I’ve come here with a problem that perhaps some of you might be able to provide a solution to or give advice towards:

Before I preface this, I’d like to say that Columbia is indeed my dream school, and I wouldn’t have applied ED if I had any doubts about attending Columbia in my heart. If it were practical and not so costly, I would without a doubt drop every other consideration and attend Columbia if accepted during this cycle. However, the situation can obviously get complicated.

Our family recently moved in June, and as a result, we’ve had a tough time finding the specific tax return documents needed for the CSS Profile that’s required for the Columbia Financial Aid Application. I called the Financial Aid office for help on this matter a week before the due date of the FA application, and (while I’m not trying to “blame” and am just simply giving my honest testimony to the best of my recollection) I was told that I could turn in my FA application by the normal date of February with RD candidates and get my package by then. Relieved, I went on about my life until I decided to call the FA office once again to verify whether I could keep my other applications in if I were to get accepted since I was turning in a regular FA application now. I was told this time that to begin with, I shouldn’t have been told and that there was NO WAY that I could’ve been told that I could turn in a financial aid application by February if I was an ED applicant. Not wanting to violate my contract, I subsequently called the Office of Admissions and asked to be transferred to Regular Decision, to which they said that I email the Office of Admissions with the particulars of my request. I did so, and it has been 3 business days since I had filed said request (I had even followed up with the request the day after I sent the email via phone, to which they said it would take up to 3 days to process the request).

My main concern is that, if I were to be accepted, and not able to pay since I wouldn’t have had a financial aid application in and would be expected to pay full tuition, would it be a valid reason to negate on the ED contract without repercussion since I took the necessary precautionary measures to back out before decisions were released? (And believe me, I have checked numerous times to make sure I actually sent the email to the Office, and I did, with my Applicant ID and name).

I apologize to anyone who finds themselves annoyed by this post, but I figured this was the best place to look for suggestions.

Interviews are all based on availability, so you’re not at a disadvantage if you don’t get one.
The boy from your school being interviewed – when will his interview be conducted? Decisions come out in 2 days.
