I didn’t even get deferred…

I got in!

Shameless self promotion - see a video of your admissions officers signing the fight song:

I want to thank everyone in this thread for being amazing and supportive. Whether you end up in Columbia or not, I wish you all the very best in wherever you may be!

deferred / waitlisted
ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahshdohdi :(( :((
I didn’t cry though. I think I handled it pretty well.

Deferred as well …

Deferred!!

ACCEPTED!!! Congrats to everyone else who was accepted and good luck to everyone, regardless of the decision, you guys are going to do amazing things for sure!

Rejected, my stats are in official page if you’re curious (and I’m curious about all of yours as well). ED was basically the only hope I had for getting into a school like this, so that’s a big reason why it’s pretty disheartening. Oh well, I’ll aim a little lower, hopefully with more positive results.

Accepted!! I can’t wait to meet everyone else in the class of 2019! To those who weren’t accepted–I am positive that you’ll all be doing incredible things next year, regardless of where you end up!

ACCEPTED!!! was honestly expecting a rejection but was pleasantly surprised.

accepted!!!

ACCEPTED :)

@reecie569‌ I’m in the same exact boat as you, similar stats and I was rejected. It really is a crapshoot. Where else are you applying?

Deferred.

@shankar334 ; @ilovethecity ; @Dream321
To those who were deferred. Did you ask for a high amount of financial aid? Is it the high aid requirement which prevented an acceptance?

RD applicant here - congrats to those who got in! That is really awesome; I hope to see you guys next year. :)

To deferrals/rejections, back to the drawing board. I just got deferred from Harvard today, so I know how it feels. I’ve seen a lot of posts today that say something to the effect of “you’re still worth a lot” and while that’s all fine and good, that doesn’t really address the underlying problem of the fact that we still don’t have the/a school we want.

The “this school is terrible anyway” approach is wrong, just as “oh god I’m never going to be good enough since I didn’t get into reach” is wrong. While I hate to commit the middle fallacy, it’s true that the best response is in between those two: “my personality didn’t match up well with this school - I’ll try again somewhere else.” A quick look through any Ivy’s decisions thread will show you that this process really is holistic. People with 2400s and 4.0s get rejections while people with 30 ACTs get accepted. These places aren’t looking at you and thinking “Well this kid has a 2360 while this one only has 2300. Oh well, applicant two goes in the garbage”, they’re looking to see if what came across in your app will translate to involvement in their community. Basically - “will this applicant be at home here + offer something to the community + get something out of it.” Retention rate says a lot, and they want to get kids who will love it and stay. These admissions officers know their school very well and know how kids will like it.

Think of it like speed dating. So Columbia wasn’t interested - so what? Better than them shrugging and taking you even though you wouldn’t necessarily feel at home and happy. Now get back in there and mix and mingle again.

“There’s a club if you’d like to go - you could meet somebody who really loves you” (nobody mention the next few lines of the song, I swear)

Take this as a sign of direction - which is better than walking through the fog of admissions blindly. Hold on - you’ll find home come regular decision e-mail time. And it’ll be better than you ever could have imagined.

@akashnila‌ Well, I’m a QuestBridge Finalist so, yes, I did ask for a high financial aid…

@Doxology‌ Aww, your last five sentences are so inspirational! I wish you the best of luck with Harvard deferral because I know I will also need it during Columbia RD round…
