I know columbia has more of a real campus then nyu, but is it really used? Is it commonplace for people to be throwing a frisbee around or is the campus more for decoration? I did visit...but it was very cold that day so i'm not sure if it was the norm.

The Columbia campus is... tiny.
I'd say you'd find that hippy-ish stuff more often at Washington Square Park ^_-

Washington Square park is at the butt of many jokes for being an "active" marketplace... Actually, there's a police station right there, interestingly enough.

am i missing something here? From what i see the question is about campus life not whether weed is more accessible at columbia or nyu.

the answer to OP's question is yes, during those few months when its nice and warm you see many many people sitting on the steps or lounging around on one of the lawns or playing frisbee or football or soccer etc

As for the campus being small...i think that's an asset. I would hate to have to walk for like 20 minutes to get to class

I feel like I'm missing something too. Is "frisbee" a euphemism for pot?

no...i was just asking if the campus is for decoration or if it's used for recreation as well since it's kinda small...

very much used for fun stuff, here a list of things i've played / done multiple times in the central campus area, and stuff that people play regularly (climate permitting)

1) wiffle ball
2) frisbee golf (usually at night)
3) ultimate
4) cricket
5) soccer
6) rugby
7) four square
8) sliding down the low step on a tray after the first snow
9) snow ball fights
10) sun bathing (not really something you play)
11) counter protesting
12) there are also these old asian people that come on campus at like 6am every day and do tai chi while everyone is still asleep, i pulled off an all nighter once and joined them at 6.
13) flirt back, and i might take you out to dinner ;)

frisbee probably takes the cake, any time of day on a good day, there's probably a couple of people playing.

The campus is certainly not for everyone. Personally, I think its warm and intimate; really a nice contrast with Manhattan in the backdrop.
