@RyanHWayne From what I’ve learned from the info sessions the TOEFL matters more for international students as the SAT I is recommended (but not required) for those from non-Anglophone high schools in non-Anglophone countries. I believe the required TOEFL score is 100, and your SAT II scores are really good! The breakdown for students in the Transatlantic program is 1/3 American, 1/3 European, and 1/3 other, so it is definitely possible for you to get in (I would assume they would want to know why the Transatlantic and not your own region which would be explained in the essay, but this is just an assumption on my part). APUSH is definitely something good to study, I would recommend getting your hands on a AP Gov’t book as well if you can
February 15th seems like so long away… Can time go by faster? Godspeed that we at least get the interviews. I’ll prepare a bit just in case.
I agree, this is going to be the slowest 28 days of my life
Did anyone apply to the Berkeley dual program? Has anyone received an interview invitation?
@2018scholar Daughter applied to it. Has not received an interview invitation there, either.
@dowzerw thank you for replying! I’m super nervous! I saw applicants laat year received invitations on Jan 18, a Wednesday, so I hoped they would announce it today as well.
For those who have applied to multiple dual degree programs: don’t worry too much if you get rejected from the Berkeley one - it is the newest and smallest program. I remember receiving a short, rather harsh rejection email in mid-january last year, which made the following days even more stressful. In the end, I still ended up in the Columbia one… just to show that the different programs are really independent from each other. Good luck to all of you!
That’s interesting @DualBAapplicant , thanks for letting us know. I’m curious about the numbers actually - do you know how many students there are per year at Columbia vs. Berkeley? And in your experience do kids usually get in to one and not both? I’m wondering if they “talk” to each other during admissions in order to avoid competition between programs. My daughter applied to both and would frankly be thrilled to be admitted to either one.
@DualBAapplicant Thanks so much for sharing. Useful for the rest of us out here wondering.
By the way, is there anyone on this forum who is applying to the UBC-Sciences Po program and is familiar with their admissions stats? I’m applying there as well.
Berkeley invitations are finally out!
@2018scholar Ditto! Daughter received her Berkeley invite today, too.
For anyone that got the UC Berkeley interview mind posting your stats?
Hey, I’m on mobile so I can’t pull up formatted admissions stats for you but I got invited for an interview for the Berkeley Dual BA yesterday (my permanent residence is in California so idk if that affects anything) but basically SAT 1590 w/ 24 writing and ACT 36 SAT II US History 740 Chem 730 Math II 800 I’m a bit too lazy to list my Aps but I took nine and got 6 5’s, and 3 4’s. I graduated early with the class of 2017 and am in my gap year right now, unweighted GPA was 3.90 school doesn’t rank. Extracurriculars I figure skate and MUN was a big deal for me through high school. Specific essay was on my multi-varying interests. Hope this helps!
@jkrxqzl Thanks for posting! Now that I know people like you are applying I’m 100% screwed… But I should expect that when applying to an Ivy
@Kd6410 Don’t feel that way! I come from an area where almost everyone looks like me in regards to admission stats, but we don’t necessarily get into many ivies. It’s all about the holistic person you are, and many times stats just indicate the environment you grew up in.
On my Naviace it says that for admissions these are very important
Character / Personal Qualities
Curriculum Rigor / School Record
Essay
GPA
Interview
Recommendations
Under important is test scores
And under considered is class rank and EC’s
I wonder how true this is
@Kd6410, I’m not an admissions officer so I can’t verify that, but from the info session, I gleaned that the process is really holistic, as cliché as it sounds. The officer said that test scores were important, but not as important as personal qualities, the essays/interview, and rigor. I think that a good balance of everything should be fine, but then again, who knows???
To be completely honest I’ve just been stalking CC threads all weekend and I’m now convinced I won’t get in anywhere hahahaha someone please take the internet away from me!! It’s just really hard to feel confident when you see people with perfect GPAs, SATs, and everything in between applying to your favorite schools
@en2900 That’s the CC curse - lots of overqualified people on here and helicopter parents who are flaunting their kids’ stats.
3 weeks until interview decisions! (assuming they come out on Feb 15)
