Does Columbia require a secondary school report(w/ recommendation from a high school counselor) or just a high school transcript?
I thought the secondary school report was required but when I called the school this morning, the guy I talked to said they only needed the high school transcript. I'm confused :S

Columbia College in Chicago or Columbia University?

columbia university in NYC :)

Okay well, I think you’re confused about what Secondary School transcripts mean. Secondary school is high school. Technically, college education is called tertiary education.

So yes, they are just looking for your high school transcripts, plus your college transcripts, letters of recommendation and your essay. Was that what you were looking for?

As for the letter, which I think I was you’re asking about. I believe they want the letter of recommendation from a college professor, not one from both high school and your current school.

i’m talking about the secondary school final report form(not the college official’s form) found in the commonapp site, the form that needs to be filled out by your high school counselor. Some schools require that form along with the high school transcript while some don’t. I just wondered if I need to submit this form for Columbia…?

Oh, I see! Sorry, I was a little confused lol You’ll have to correct me if I’m wrong but, you’re using the online common app right?

I don’t want to blab about something I’m not too familiar with but, check this site out. It lists everything that needs to be sent.

I am confused by this as well… On their transfer admissions website, it does not list the secondary final report as required, but on the PDF instructions package on the lef hand side, it does…

@elynn, I believe those are the reqs for first year admissions

hm, I am determined! I will figure this out for you lol

Alrighty, try this one. It looks like it tells EVERYTHING and it’s for transfer students.

Yes, that was the one to which I was referring in the earlier post - it says that the secondary report (not just transcript) is part of the application… So, I would think to send it just in case… If they don’t need it, then they just won’t use it, but better than not sending it if it turns out they do require it, despite what the man on the phone said…

Yeah,I’d follow the specific instructions.I’d just send everything asked of you there and if it’s not required they don’t need to look at it.

Sorry I wasn’t more help. I’m not familiar with the common app process. I figured we could team up and figure it out lol

thanks guys! I was hoping I wouldn’t have to send it because my high school counselor doesn’t seem to have kept the recommendation letter she wrote for me back in high school, and i feel bad asking her to write me a letter again. sigh I think i’ll try contacting the school again on Monday to be 100% sure haha

ok, i called Columbia again today and the person I talked to said only a high school transcript is required. hmmm…

When I called them a while ago they said the same. It might simply be a typo in the PDF, because it takes a lot of work to go back and change the PDF compared to simply changing it online.

It could also be like Dartmouth where they ask for a SSR, but they say it’s ok if you don’t send it too.

I’ll second that, MonkeyKing. My guess is that they really did just not update the pdf, but, as long as its still written somewhere on the instructions, I’d say its better to err on the safe side.

Technically, college education is called tertiary education.

Also as higher education.

I just called my HS guidance counselor, and she said that they are used to transfers, and know what to do, just sign the release and drop off release and envelope
